Mary Landrieu (D) voted for artic drilling
"On March 16, pro-drilling supporters eked out a win on a budget resolution that was specially crafted to allow oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Senate will have to cast at least two more votes on the budget bill this year if they hope to open the Arctic Refuge to drilling, so it is absolutely critical that we keep the pressure on. If your Senators voted FOR the budget resolution, let them know you disagree strongly with their vote. If they voted AGAINST the budget, express your thanks and urge them to stand firm in defense of the Arctic Refuge on future votes. "

Mary Landriew has never been a forward thinker or a progressive.

2. I have a particular hard time with this woman
She is obviously between a rock and a hard place because she is being strong-armed to vote with Republicans so she can get needed help in Lousiana.
But to forsake ANOTHER state in order to gain a pittance for her state is unforgivable.
I have my doubts that her intentions are the purest, because in all honesty, she is just attempting to protect her political assets--Louisiana isn't the end, it's the means in which to do so.
I honestly hope another real Democrat will challenge her seat so the greater good EVERYWHERE can be served.

8. the repubs own the house, senate and presidency
so why do they need Democrats help? unless these so called moderate Democrats are not really Democrats at all, but instead where ran as Democrats in some crazy think tank plan to corner the market per say! which would explain alot of things as of late.

10. Faulty logic
Voting with the far right repeatedly IS NOT good for the party or for anyone else.

Furthermore, despite the supposed "conventional wisdom" you don't have evince far right lunacy to get elected in Louisiana- or in many other states. John Edwards got elected in North Carolina. Tom Harkin is from Iowa. Bob Kerry was a longtime Senator for Nebraska before he turned over his seat to a worthless DINO named Ben Nelson.

So called "Democrats" like that hurt the party's image and taint its candidates all over the country (including state and local races). Until they're held accountable, muzzled and/or unceremoniously run out of office, the Dems will never regain the majority- hell, they won't even regain any relevancy in national politics. As it is, they might as well pack their bags and go home. They've gotten ZERO results- and look only to helping themselves to a 7th straight congressional loss this fall, despite the Republican implosion.

6. She's a DINO........
she sides with Republicans more often than not and she was doing this long before Katrina was a small storm could. I guess it goes back to a Louisiana Democrat being far different than a New York Democrat, but enough is enough. She's not even trying to pretend she's a Democrat anymore. Oh yeah, she voted to censure Bill Clinton but will NOT support censure of george bush! Isn't THAT special! :eyes:

7. She voted for the budget bill ( which contained the Artic drilling)
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 01:55 PM by OKNancy
to get money for Louisiana

"The budget blueprint advanced without Cheney's vote in the Republican-led Senate when Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu supported the plan after winning concessions to help her hurricane-damaged state of Louisiana and rest of the Gulf Coast.

She won inclusion of a proposal that could provide up $2 billion a year for levee and coastal restoration projects. The money would come from auctioning television airwaves to wireless companies and from potential oil lease revenues from exploration in an Alaskan wildlife refuge."

---
It would have passed no matter how she voted. Cheney was there to break the tie.

9. Was she the deciding vote?
If not, her 'yea' vote was simply a political move on her part and is inconsequential.

11. BOTH my Senators voted for it.
And I'm pissed to hell about it. They are both on Ted Stevens dance card. Inouye and Akaka.
