Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 01:55 PM by catmother
says he will not promote his next movie if they rerun south park joking about him and scientology. i don't watch it, but from what i've read they make fun of all religions. now many of us were complaining that muslims couldn't take a joke with cartoons. we said we want free speech and freedom of the press. so doesn't that apply to scientologists too?

on edit: this may have been posted. i havent' been too active on the boards in a few days. so if this is a dupe, please forgive.:hide:

1. The scientologist episode of South Park was pulled.
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 02:07 PM by blackops
Isaac Hayes, who played "Chef", quit over the episode. Trey Parker and Matt Stone said (paraphrasing) "Isaac only got religious sensitivity when it was his religion."

Edit to add: I stopped watching South Park after their "Katrina" episode. Too much apologizing for the Bush administration. Fuck South Park.

12. Ever hear of the South Park Republican?
The show, claiming to be an equal opportunity offender, does lean toward the right wing. The Katrina episode, supposedly balanced criticism, in no way reflects the amount of negligence and incompetence committed by Bushco.

11. Tom Cruise And Rob Thomas Are Lovers
Tom Cruise and Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas are lovers!

No doubt that anyone with an Internet connection has read about Tom Cruise being gay. According to rumor lore, he has had a long-time boyfriend in Chicago who is an Asian pilot for American Airlines. This is an accusation that Cruise and more importantly Cruise's many attorneys vehemently deny.

Such stories have been around for years and Cruise has evidently attempted to counter them with a series of high-profile heteronormative relationships. First, Nicole Kidman, then Penelope Cruz, and most recently Katie Holmes. In each instance, the "relationship" is actually a contract that gives the women a boost to their careers, a lot of money, and an elegant lifestyle.

Here is where this particular rumor gets interesting. Not long ago, Marisol, the wife of Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas (who has had to contend with his own rumors of bi-sexuality) found her husband in bed with Tom Cruise causing Cruise's people to shift into high gear.

First, Mrs. Rob Thomas was bought off for an undetermined sum.
Second, Cruise and his handlers set out to immediately find Cruise a girlfriend. Second-tier actresses were targeted. A list was drawn up with Jessica Alba (#1 pick) and three other girls who fell out for various reasons. Originally targeted (#3 I think) but later rejected as "undesirable" was rumor queen Lindsay Lohan. Way down at #5 on the list was Katie Holmes, but that was the one with whom they were able to strike a deal.

39. Scarlett Johansen was apparently targeted by Cruise
She was supposed to play the female lead, but then he took her to a "dinner" at the Scientology center, and she got freaked out and high-tailed it. Then, she dropped out of the movie. Smart girl.

42. Two celebrity scientologists that I have heard of were gay
Cruise and Travolta

I have some friends that went on a private cruise on a chartered sail boat in the Caribbean. The guests that went the week before them were Travolta, his wife, and a male companion whom shared a cabin with John.

as long as Cruise keeps writing those big, fat checks to the Scientologists he can do just about anything he pleases. That's what Scientology (and many other religions) are about, isn't it? The Money!

26. What happened to Tom not being able to have children?
Wasn't that the reason that he and Nicole adopted? Didn't he accuse her of being unfaithful when she got pregnant? And now he's gotten this girl pregnant? What's the real story? Incidentally, there have been rumors about his gayness for years.

27. His new movie, "Mission Impossible MXLVIII" or whatever the hell...
it's called is due out this July. Cruise and company are hailing it as the "box office hit of the summer". :eyes: I'm willing to bet that it fails miserably. I think people are fed up with his childish, schizoid-tology ass and will stay away in droves. It's rumored that he and his latest, Katie Holmes, are already calling it quits before their child is born.
Ton Cruise is a certifiable nut-case, as is evidenced by his divorcing one of the most beautiful and talented women on the planet; Nicole Kidman. The little runt, all scientologists for that matter, are completely brainwashed by Hubbard, who himself is certifiably nuts.

They have waited for that offensive POS movie to be done to release the only thing worth having the name Mission Impossible, the TV series on DVD.

So I will happily ignore this one like I did the last one. Did see the first one becasue I didn't know it was going to be nothing like MI.

It seems that they are programmed to go on the offensive when their "religion" is poked fun at. I think it proves South Park's point.

the "religion" was made up by a cult leading science fiction novelist. Give me a break. I support alternative spirituality, I practice alternative nature/pagan spirituality but no one claims to be a supreme leader and there are no stupid laws and regulations like these nuts have.

I would have been kicked out. I had three, wasn't quiet during any of them. Just the opposite. Hey L Ron Hubbard, let me shove a lemon in the hole where you as a male urinate and let's see if you can be quiet. Typical religion where a male tries to tell a female how to act about her body.

I don't know if Tom Cruise has publically denounced the South Park Episode
but if he did, I would wager that his dilligence to do so would be spurred on more about his likeness in the closet than his religous affiliation (however... I'm sure his relgous affiliation would be the "excuse").

Clamor Outside 'South Park' Closet
"Mission: Impossible" studio joins Cruise's camp in denying it strong-armed scrapping of Scientology repeat.
By Scott Collins
Times Staff Writer

March 18, 2006

Closetgate is heating up! Paramount has joined Tom Cruise's public relations rep in denying reports that the movie star strong-armed the studio into spiking a "South Park" episode that ridicules him and Scientology. According to the site Hollywood Interrupted, Comedy Central yanked a scheduled repeat this week of "Trapped in the Closet," a now-notorious "South Park" episode that first aired in November, after Cruise threatened to halt his promotional activities on behalf of Paramount's "Mission: Impossible III," which opens May 5. Viacom is also alleged to have ordered "South Park" producers and co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker not to discuss the incident (although the pair reportedly issued a joking statement that seemed to lend credence to the notion that some arm-twisting occurred). Paramount and Comedy Central are Viacom properties.

"Trapped in the Closet," which satirizes Scientology and also pokes fun at questions regarding Cruise's sexuality, may have claimed one casualty already. Earlier this week, soul singer and Scientologist Isaac Hayes, who has voiced the character of Chef since 1997, asked to be released from his "South Park" contract, presumably because of the "Trapped" episode. Stone said he would grant Hayes' request. Midday Friday, Paramount spokeswoman Nancy Kirkpatrick said that Cruise "hasn't ever threatened not to support" the publicity campaign for "Mission: Impossible III." Cruise rep Paul Bloch said the actor "had nothing to do with any programming" on Comedy Central. "At no time did Tom Cruise say he would not do publicity" for "M:I III."

OK, but one problem: No one at Viacom has publicly offered a satisfactory explanation of why the repeat, scheduled for Wednesday night, was pulled. A Comedy Central rep said he could not comment but referred to a statement issued Thursday to the New York Post saying the episode was pulled because "we wanted to give Chef an appropriate tribute by airing two episodes he is most known for."

That's a transparently ridiculous claim. If the network wanted to give Chef an appropriately disrespectful "South Park"-style send-off, it would have re-broadcast as scheduled the episode that prompted him to quit in a huff, not suddenly knocked over tables and chairs in a mad rush to memorialize the "episodes he is most known for."
