US wants Democrats in power
Most Americans want Democrats to take control of Congress in November mid-term elections, while 34% prefer a Republican Congress, a Newsweek Poll said on Saturday. President George W Bush's approval rating hit its lowest score in the Newsweek poll, the newsmagazine said in a statement, citing recent events, such as the Dubai ports controversy and the upcoming third anniversary of the Iraq war.

Only 36% of American adults approve of the way the president is handling his job, according to results of the survey conducted on Thursday and Friday. 64 % are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States at this time, while only 30% are satisfied. A Newsweek Poll conducted exactly a year ago found 57% of Americans approved of the way Bush handled terrorism and homeland security, and 35% disapproved, the magazine said.

Now only 44% of Americans polled approve, while 50% disapprove, it said. 65 % disapprove of Bush's handling of the situation in Iraq and 29% approve. 47 % approve of Bush's appointments to the Supreme Court - a five-point increase since the last Newsweek Poll and the sole issue in the poll in which the public believes he is performing well.

The poll results were based on a survey of 1 020 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus three %age points. It will be published in the March 27 issue of Newsweek.

1. Ah, but who do the corporations want?
And those that count the votes?

I expect a whole hell of a lot of reversed exit and "actual" polls.

2. Americans want checks and balances in government
They don't want one party to hold all branches of government.

3. Who are the twenty-nine percenters... now?
Before the IRC vote, poll after poll showed that support for an invasion of Iraq dropped to about 30% when asked if the US were to go in without the UN. After months of propoganda based on manipulted intelligence and tapping into the fears from 911 took its toll - only about 29% were against a US invasion (without UN support.)

RW media talk land spoke derisively about the 29 percenters.... Interesting to see this number come up again... as those who approve BUsh's handling of the situation in Iraq.

Yet the Bush admin seems to think that they only thing they have to do to change public support... is more staged PR.

Is three more years long enough to totally dessimate support for the GOP? Due to the petty arrogance of bush - and his tin ear per his congressional allies and per the public - I predict that they pull more bumbling power plays that will make a now skeptical public - disgusted. Could it be that we are on the verge of a historical era... one where we see the dwindling down of a major political party? In those times some new form of the old party inevitably morphs to take its place... not likely to happen - but an interesting thought.
