The best birthday I can ever remember having..(wonderful dissent)
Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 10:11 AM by converted_democrat
Yesterday was my birthday.. My SO and I decided to go out to eat, and he took me to Red Lobster.. (Spare me, I know it isn't good for me, but I loves me some lobster, and I only eat it on my b-day..) We got there in the middle of the Sat. night rush, and we had to wait for half an hour at the bar.. We go in and sit down, and order drinks.. The couple to the left of us has had a couple, (talking loudly and semi- slurred speech) and are ordering more. The guy had been drinking the House Merlot, and the bartender told him if you like this drink, than you would love our special merlot (can't remember the exact name the bartender gave) that is only 2 dollars more a glass.. The guy says loudly enough for everyone in the bar to hear.. "I can't afford the fancy stuff, I can barely afford my gas everyday thanks to Herr Bush.." Everyone that was seated around the bar started to clap, and some even cheered.. (I live in one of the reddest areas of Florida.) That was all it took.. Everyone around the bar started talking about gas prices, and other bitches they had about the Bush administration..

I never said a word, I just sat there with my SO drinking my martini listening to the wonderful dissent all around me.. No one disagreed about anything, and people just kept bringing up complaint after complaint almost like children trying to one up each other.. Dinner and drinks at Red Lobster.. 105.22 + tips.. The feeling that our country isn't completely lost afterall..
priceless..

5. Happy Belated Birthday converted_dem! What started out
Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 10:11 AM by vickiss
as whispers is turning louder each day!

I was at the bookstore yesterday and mentioned to the clerk that I wasn't sure if I should look for "1984" in current events or fiction anymore. An older man around 60 to 70 piped up "Be careful what you say, Big Brother IS watching and listening!"

Isn't it great to hear the sheeple awakening?!!

Glad you had a great birthday! Mine is next Sat., hope it is as good as yours!

In hope of peace,
v

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!

14. It was great.. I love the stuff.. So good..
They have lobster fest going on right now, so they have many items available that they normally don't have.. We were going to go out after we ate, but I was so stuffed I didn't want to do anything but veg out.. I had such a good time, and I have some leftovers to eat for lunch today! Thank you for wishing me a happy b-day V, I hope yours is every bit as happy as mine!

10. I'm pretty sure I'm going to hell anyway, this is just icing on the cake..
I grew up in a fundy household, and I never even got to try lobster, crab, or shrimp until I left the house.. I can't believe I missed out on such good eats all those years..

13. What, in your opinion, is turning the tide in Florida?
I am experiencing the same conversions in Michigan.
I believe the sentiments are changing here due
to the outsourcing, un-employment and plummeting
housing market.

18. I think it's a mix of things.. Gas prices for one, and in this area
horses are a really big deal, and the bottom dropped out of the market.. Studs that were going for 75,000 to 100,000 aren't going for a tenth of that now.. The biggest things that were talked about were the port deal and how insecure we really are, and gas prices.. One person made the comment.. "If you think gas prices are bad now, wait until we attack Iran.."

19. Wow, I was questioning the "conversions"...
but this gives me hope.
Two different regions.
Several DIFFERENT reasons.

Perhaps people REALLY are waking up.

Now what?

Dems NEED to get in front with leadership.

I'm talking Feingold up, as he seems willing
to take the reins.

20. I really like Russ, and I think he would be perfect to lead us out of this
mess.. He's a hell of a man.. My SO and I are determined to leave FL., because of the hurricanes and the fact that the fundies are trying to take over.. We are considering moving to Wisconsin because of Russ.

We also think that it's becoming apparent that the economy can't go on like this forever, and if there is a collapse we want to be in an area where we can farm and raise animals. Anywhere in the midwest would do, but we like Russ, so Wisconsin is pretty high on the list.

26. I grew up in Ohio.. I've been to Michigan a couple times.. I used to go
to the Ford Museum every summer.. I haven't been up there in a long time.. How is the economy doing? What's the political picture like? You guys have Conyers, no? I love John.. What are housing and land prices like?

27. Economy is scaring everyone witless.
Massive layoffs looming. Bankrupt companies.
Broken Unions.....
We're going to have an interesting election year;
Granholm SHOULD be able to hold off the AMWAY KING,
Richard "The Dick" DeVos.

Levin is still true blue
(although he's YET to go on record
backing Feingold up).

Stabenow has sold out to some degree,
voting against us when the spinning
DLC bottle winds up pointed her way.

We still have WAY too many 'pukes in this state, who,
while they are beginning to smell the offal of the
White House, think that dems are demons from hell.

*ucking am talk radio did us in, across the country,
if you ask me. I am SO glad that AAR is beaming our
way, though the reception sucks!

Conyers kicks ass, and his seat is safe, but
he is NOT the greatest public speaker I have
ever heard....

24. The funny thing is, you would expect horses to get WAY more valuable
in the face of gas nobody can afford!

Oh, that's right. The horses have to eat, and front lawns don't make for much pasture..........

16. Sometimes the Left shows up where you don't expect it
I live in the 2nd most republican area in the country, but when F9/11 released, the theater was packed compeltely and everyone was cheering and applauding.

17. That's great.
The other night at my local watering hole, I was surprised to see someone passing around a GWB joke book, - I think "Bushisms". Everyone was reading a section and laughing at the buffoon. It was great.

when a lady was turned away because she wasn't covered on her prescription plan and couldn't afford it. Everybody in the line was fuming and cursing Bush
