The Republicans have GOD on their side!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2175931
Katherine Harris has been told to run by God!

He's apparently giving them direct instructions.

What should we do?

1. Bribe him?
2. Get a different God to back us?
3. Abandon all hope.

But I think I'll pick number two anyway. For several years now we've heard how the current God supports murder. He has, in fact, gone against everything he has taught us. I think he's lost his marbles.

9. God tells all Republicans to run...
They just never listen long enough to find out to where it is they're supposed to run. I'm pretty sure that He's telling them to run out into traffic, off cliffs, things like that. But because they don't listen, they keep running for office -- making the rest of us want to run out into traffic, off cliffs, things like that.

13. This bothers me for a couple of reasons, but the biggest one is this..
If Nelson is 20 points ahead of her in the polls, and she wins (diebold)... All she will have to say is that it's a miracle and that God made it happen, and all of the fruit loops will believe it.. It'll make it hard for us to get even remotely "religious" folks who might honestly be honest people to want to launch an investigation into the fraud, and many of them might indeed believe it is a miracle.. Her saying that God wants her to run, plus the 10 million she's putting in of her own money gives me an uneasy feeling..

22. You don't think it's odd she's putting 10 million of her own money up,
and now is claiming God told her to run? Would you put up 10 million if you were 20 points or more behind in the polls? Me thinks Harris knows something that we don't.. Wait and see if I'm not right.. She'll win and say it's a miracle, and the pukes will buy it..

17. Yesterday I was walking with other Quakers in a Peace march
and there were 3 or 4 fundamentalists screaming at everyone in the march telling us that we needed to be "saved". Amazing conclusion that people who want to end war do not believe in God!

So I stepped out of the march and said to one of the women: "If you love Jesus, work for peace".

She answered "good works will not get you into heaven".

To which I said "Its earth I'm worried about, not heaven".

26. And the funny thing is my sign said
"The here and now is sacred"

Some conversations I've had with atheist friends and some of the religion threads here on DU have really sharpened the contrast for me. The fundamentalists spend the entirety of THIS life worrying about what happens when its over. And they believe that by agreeing with exactly the right set of doctrines you can guarantee your eternal soul, even if you live a lousy life. As if God could forgive you for any terrible action except a theological disagreement.

The truth is, religious or not, none of us knows what is beyond this life: heaven, hell, the abyss. We have no way of truly knowing that or controlling it, so it seems like a real waste to squander this life worrying about the unknown.

I became a Quaker only 6 months ago- what attracted me is that there is complete agreement on issues such as peace and marriage equality and everyone is involved in some kind of service. Every dimension of life is sacred, including politics, including sex, you name it. Its religion from the inside out, not from the outside in. The motivation is hope, not fear.

I have great respect for any religion whose populace actively embraces the virtues you mention.

Christianity would be a lot more tolerable if its followers behaved like Christ.

33. I quoted it before, I'll quote it again . . .
18. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. 28. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

From Matthew 7

Now I take this to mean that you can praise Jesus and God all you want, but in the end, if all you've done is use their names as an excuse to commit or justify acts that are cruel and evil, you've pretty much missed the point.

Every time a Republican mentions that "God" told them to do something, the Democrats should do the logical thing and accuse the Republican of being delusional... since they are hearing voices in their head.

Buncha morans! Every time someone says that God told them to do something they should be checked into the looney bin.
