Is 2006 Shaping up to be a referendum on Iraq?
Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 04:27 PM by LeftHander
with Dick pushing the obvious "All is well" rhetoric and "W" on the PR trail promoting pre-emptive invasion and wholesale destruction...is the 2006 election going to to hinge on Iraq War?

As Iraq spirals further into violence. "Major combat operations" are far from over in Iraq as evident with the largest "PR"...oops... I mean "AIR" campaign since 2003.

Will the battle for Washington domination be waged over the Iraq war? It appears that if Bush and Dick and defending Iraq it must be their weakest point. So will Democrats acknowledge this and attack Bush and the Republicans on the handling of Iraq? Will the media allow the truth to be told...finally?

Will the 39% of Americans who still believe Saddam fly planes into the WTC finally listen?

I guess it is up to the Democratic Leadership.

WIll they take the cue from the progressive left who have BEEN RIGHT ABOUT THE WAR since DAY FUCKING ONE and finally take charge and start holding Bush accountable for his obvious CRIMINAL handling of the "WAR" on terror? Or will they cower in the fear of the perception of being weak on defense and national security. The GOP will play those cards in simple easy to digest slogans and a well funded PR campaign.

So it is about the WAR STUPID....it has always a been about the war on terror and how Bush has used 911 to terrorize this nation.

3. I think it's actually more likely
to be a referendum on whether or not Democrats will stand up for what they believe and be willing to oppose George W. Bush's immoral policies. If they don't, not enough of them will get elected to matter.

I agree that it ought to be about the war, about the rising deficits and idiotic tax cuts, and about the overall incompetence of his administration, but it's not. The Republicans are geniuses at defining the terms of the debate, and all too often Democrats stand there, mouth agape, not quite understanding what happened.

Notice that any time a Democrat truly stands up and speaks out for what's right, he gets shut down by his own party. It happened to Howard Dean, and it's happened to Russ Feingold.

4. Jack Murtha averred that it is, just this morning on MEET the Potatohead
He also noted that other issues, like Katrina and medicare, are in play, but the big issue is IRAQ.
