West Wing...who wins?
great show tonight

so is Santo's taking care of brother's baby or his own?

Vinnick did the right thing by not using it!

1. Is it baby brother's baby or Santos'?
I was relieved Vinnick did the right thing. I like the guy even if he is a repuke.

We never got a solid answer from Santos on the baby question.

5. it's the brother's I think
Because Santos looked so scornful when he said, "you don't believe me, do you?" and then didn't even try to convince him any more.

7. and I think Vinnick wondered if that was the line Santos would use...
in case the baby was found out.

He also said that his wife knows, too. I think Santos does have a kid he's paying support for. I didn't buy the 'it's my brother's kid' story. Besides, it never would have been kept quiet like this and would be public knowledge if that was the case.

11. But if he IS trying to cover-up an ill-legitimate child...
Why carry the check book that you use to pay the mother off with around in your brief case?? If it is a cover-up, don't you think these people would have "People" to funnel their support checks through?? That would be too easy of a paper trail to pick up - and in a real campaign - even for dog catcher - the GOP is always scouring the opponent for dirt to use against him (or her).

9. I agree
I did not like Santos' brother in the show where Santos went back to Houston for a visit. The brother asked to bring some of his business friends to meet Santos while Santos was visiting his family. The child thing is consistent with this brief appearance.

2. I know who wins.
I've heard reports from people who watched location shots in DC on and around what is supposed to be inauguration day.

It's Santos. :hi:

If you want to read the reports from the people who were on location, you can go here:

Scroll a little bit more than halfway down to the heading "West Wing" Shooting in D.C, , March 3 - March 5." There are, of course, spoilers, so beware. :)

8. Probably so.
But hey, somewhere in the recesses of my brain, a small part of me can go on believing that a liberal Democrat is in the WH. :hi:

10. we got the answer in one episode, the flash forward to the opening
of the Bartlet presidential library? They are waiting for the then current prez to arrive and in comes Josh as the advance for the current prez. It's a sort of mini reunion scene.

12. Your answers...
1) It's his brothers
2) Vinnick is STILL a scumbag though...

I had a dreadful sinking feeling watching last night's show as the Santos's baby storyline played out...and then when it was revealed that it wasn't his but his bro's I heaved a huge sigh of relief. Santos should have challenged Vinnick to go public with the accusation and then thrown it back in his face, the stealing of the briefcase and the false accusations of an illegitimate child....

Ron Silver's character is such a fucking scumbag, kind of like the man himself... :grr:

13. I think that would have backfired, tho.
For one thing, it was not unreasonable for Vinnick to think the baby was Santos', and the public would agree. And they didn't steal the briefcase, they only took it when they found it--the public would agree with that, too. Vinnick knew that to publicly accuse would also make him look bad to some people, and I think that's why he decided not to--and also because this character does posess some decency, unlike our current administration...

Ha--showing Republicans (moderates) with some decency is a powerful statement against our real Republicans, isn't it. People can see the differences all the more plainly. ("Hm--Karl Rove would have used it..." etc.) I like it. Also notice what a hypocrite the religiously right veep candidate is. ;)

14. Karl Rove would have used it regardless...
Karl Rove would have found out about it in the primarys and would have had a whisper campaign saying the child was Santos' all along (wether it was true or not). Karl Rove would have had Santos on the defensive right out of the box. If this were real Republicans, Santos would be too busy defending himself on just the shit they make up alone to showacase any of his great policy plans.

You're absolutely right! We know they would be pulling out every dirty trick. Where are the Osama tapes? Gotta have an October surprise. (I believe OBL has been dead since December 2001.)

15. I think Santos is telling the truth
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 12:39 PM by AngryOldDem
But in many ways the episode stretched credulity for me.

Karl Rove aside, I think any campaign that would consider stealing (or finding and not immediately returning) an opponent's personal property would be committing suicide themselves. It just would not be worth the risk. Never really liked Bruno, not even when he was working for Jed, but even that he pressed Vinick to use the information found inside the briefcase was astounding, and a low water mark even for him. And the competing campaign stops and media grabs...again...poetic license. At least to me.

I agree...Vinick did the right thing. Again -- he really had no choice. He was playing with dynamite there.

To answer your question, Santos wins.

What I thought was more interesting was the scene in The Cold last week where the GOP operative comes in and tells Vinick, "Well, you had some really cool progressive ideas but now you need to appeal to your base...the lowest common denominator."
