To commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the Iraq War: Faded Yellow Magnets
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 10:14 AM by brainshrub
To commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, I've been taking pictures of the faded yellow ribbon magnets in my community and posting them on my blog. The project wraps up today.

In the past twenty days, 24 American soldiers and approximately 5,088 Iraqi civilians have lost their lives. Also, the US military has spent over five billion dollars to maintain the occupation of Iraq.

Five billion. To put this into perspective: 20 days of occupation costs more money than what our government spends on vocational education, financial crimes enforcement, the Food and Drug Administration, and housing for the elderly - COMBINED.

The human cost is incalculable, but no one seems to talk about it much.

What do we have to show for all this loss of life, equipment and treasure?

Faded yellow ribbon magnets.

The above images are just a small sample. The entire collection can be found here: www.brainshrub.com/taxonomy/term/32

10. I wonder about that.
There are an awful lot of those cross-ribbons around these days.

I don't think Jesus would approve of this war.

5. The dirth of U.S. FLAGS on suv's and on cars in Orange Cnty tells a lot.
It took years, but now the U.S. flag is VERY SCARCE. The gung-ho pro-war fools, lured by the hype like bugs to fly paper, like chumps, have now ABANDONED their bravado, SHAMED by their ignorance of the stories and reports and analysis that liberals studied, to get BOTH sides of this highly propagandized business of war. The facts are irrefutable, the U.S. flags are just not being stuck on the bumpers, windows or antennas. We ignore bad news to our destruction, and the motive is greed and lifesyle comforts.

6. One person emailed me a magnet on a Hummer.
One person emailed me a magnet on a Hummer in California, but since it wasn't faded it didn't fit into the series.

The magnet is right next to the hole for the gas tank. It made me sick to see it. I've posted it here.

9. Could you send me a picture?
I think it's wrong to steal the magnets, but I would love to add a picture of it to the collection. (Brainshrub at gmail dot com.)

This series is not meant to satirize people showing support for the troops. I just want to respectfully remind Americans how much time has passed.

11. Better yet - Yellow Ribbon Magnets on sale
I was at a story today and someone had Yellow Ribbon Magnets for sale at the cash registered - and they were 50% off.

This is NOT the way to support our troops. Bring them home. Call your congressional representatives and demand that they be brought home

12. Those Yellow magnets make me
want to vomit! I don't understand how people could delude themselves into believing, putting a flimsy magnet on their car means they care about the people dying in Iraq?

Can anyone explain the mindset? Is it the hypocritical stance of "If I show piety everyone will believe me pious" routine?
