2. American walk into holes in the ground and go miles under the
Earth to mine coal and every year too many of them don't come out again. They are paid a living wage and go down there willingly.

Most illegals from Mexico go into farm work, domestic work or construction labor.

If we paid an extra nickle per can of peas an American could make a living wage to pick them and I can assure you that the Hilton will have its sheets changed at above minimum wage and that your hail damaged roof will be replaced if the roofers are paid a living wage.

Don't give me this "some jobs Americans just won't do" bull shit.

3. Hell, I just spent an hour this afternoon plucking the darn things
Since my Scotties will dig up everything in the yard BUT the onions, I get to pluck onions and pick up poop. I wonder if there are any jobs for Onion Plucker/Poop Picker Upper? Or maybe I can outsource that job to the cats.

6. Explaining why we need temporary work permits for workers
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 02:04 PM by highplainsdem
from outside the US who will "do work Americans won't do." Translation -- God forbid employers pay a living wage, so let's legalize workers who are now in the country illegally and let others come in to work at low wages, but only temporarily because the Republicans don't want them to be able to vote later, and they don't want them to have any government benefits/entitlements.

8. Hey - I got laid off from my job plucking onions!
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 02:10 PM by hedgehog
Honest - From August to December I was working grading onions at a local packing plant. (I won't say that I was working with illegals, but one of the guys did commute through the Arizona desert.) Good guys, good workers.
