Were Republicans against intervention in WW2?
A neo-con co-worker just told me "if today's Liberals were around" we would have lost WW2.

1. Not only that
Nazi records after the war showed many Republicans where getting paid by the German Government to stay neutral.

20. IIRC, Prescott was also involved
in a plot to overthrow FDR -- they stupidly approached Gen. Smedley Butler to assist them in the effort.

2. Yes, many were
Many companies traded with Hitler's Germany and made lots of money doing it.

Prescott Bush, IBM, to name a couple.

They kinda liked that 'white man is king of the world' thingy too.

5. Wasn't it IBM that arranged the database system for the final solution?
I heard that somewhere, but I don't remember where.

Both Prescott Bush and Herbert Walker were supporters of the Nazi Party. I'm guessing because they saw that they could make money and gain political influence with them...oh, and they also hated Jews.

9. You are taking the kinder explanation then
In fact the dignitaries mentioned were financing hitler through his chief corporate sponsors, helped with mass production theories and anti-labor practices and had money in the death camps. Some of that prescott death camp money was confiscated by the government then returned and is part of the base Bush fortune today. People who sold scrap metal to the Japaneses and ex-Nazis working for the Bush I campaign.
The war profiteering of the Bushes at least goes back to WWI(selling munitions to both sides during the war, why wasn't he hung?). In mind, heart, pocketbook and a readiness to join in the great NWO, you don't have to go to the tinfoil to see it is darker than you possibly imagined.

4. Your coworker is an idiot
Republicans often opposed the Lend-Lease program that FDR had with Britain though many did support the war after Pearl Harbor. The establishment of the GOP back then though like Bob Taft was very isolationist in regards to foreign policy.

6. Neville Chamberlain was a CONSERVATIVE prime minister
of England who wanted to appease Hitler. We won WWII because an extremely LIBERAL president FDR ran this country and made the rich pay taxes to finance the war effort.

13. Winston Churchill was a conservative as well.
 Of course, that's the day when 'conservative' was a far more honest political position.

18. And in 1940 Britain wanted to KEEP Chamberlain as its PM.
But he came down with Brain Cancer and had to be replaced (The British Cabinet selected Churchill, whose first RUN as PM in an election would have to wait till 1945 and he LOST that election).

People forget that in 1938 nether France nor Britain were ready for war. The German army had been planning on its expansion since the mid-1920s and expanded quickly in the early 1930s. On the other hand Britain and France were still trying to solve the Great Depression at the same time period. This was complicated by France's internal conflict (Almost a non-bloody Civil War) between the left and right in France. Basically do to the Depression Britain did not start to rebuild its Military till 1936 and France (Do to its Internal Conflict) did not start till 1938. Thus in 1938 Germany was at its Strongest against the Western Allies, but that Position would change by 1941. Thus Hitler had to attack sometime between 1938 and 1940. Munich was an attempt to delay the war hopefully till 1941 when France would be able to take on Germany, but Hitler had a Window of Opportunity and took full advantage of it.

My point is Basically the Same British Government that signed the Munich agreement, declared war on Germany and suffered through the Defeat of France (All under Chamberlain) was the same government (Under Churchill) that defeated the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain and defeated Germany in 1945.

The Appeasement of 1938 did its job, permitted Britain to build up its Air Defenses to defeat the Germans. In fact had war broken out in 1938 what happen to France in 1940 would have happened in 1939, and Germany would have had full Air Superiority over Britain for the Messerschmidt 109s were in full production by 1938, the Spitfire only started in Production in late 1938 (By 9/3/39 Britain only had 309 Spitfires), to late for any Battle of Britain in 1939, but in plenty of time for the Battle of Britain on 1940 (9/3/39 Germany had over 1200 front line Fighters including over 200 Me 109s).

As one historian said, Britain Survived WWII, by delaying the war with the Munich Agreement for a year and then by the French Army holding out till almost June 1940, permitting Britain to build up its Air Defenses AND most importantly its Spitfire Fighters. in this delay both Chamberlain and Churchill agreed for without it Britain would clearly have lost the war.

7. They accused Roosevelt of concocting the WWII.
Pearl Harbor was a conspiracy according to this theory the military knew there was going to be an attack. There is some evidence that some in military intelligence may have known more. Defeat of Fascism in Europe was truly "Our finest hour" to borrow words of the other conspirator Churchill.

Look up Smedly Butler, there were attempts of real conspirators "Republicans" to establish Fascism in the United States. General Butler put an end to it.

Gee wasn't Roosevelt just a little on the "liberal" side

16. After Pearl Harbor, not publicly
But since this was before the rise of Defense Industries, neutrality was good for business and thus they were quite oppposed to the idea of intervention.

Conservatives want to end the New Deal ideas so I would think that the leader of the country during WWII was a liberal.

Yesteryear's conservatives were strong for isolationism and "hiding behind the oceans". It was leftists who actually organized to fight fascism when they were using the Spanish Civil War as their proving ground.
