NFL commissioner retiring, Condi Rice wants job
Commissioner Condi
With Tags Retiring, We've Got His Replacement
Roy S. Johnson, AOL Black Voices Columnist

Condoleezza Rice is dying. Absolutely dying. Unless she's been messing with us for the last several years, the Secretary of State has to be giddy over the recent news that NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue will retire. She, the NFL's First Fan, so to speak, the highest-ranked pro football junkie in politics. And she's not been at all shy about her desire to someday succeed Tags as commissioner.

Commissioner Rice?

The world's most powerful diplomat could become the commissioner of the world's most powerful sport. She's got our vote, at least.

Four years ago, she told The New York Times she'd definitely be interested in the gig, but "not before Paul Tagliabue is ready to step down. I want to say that for the record."

Last year she told Jonathan Karl of ABC News: "I'm going to try to be a good Secretary of State and see if I can do this job well, and then we'll see if the NFL is open."

Consider it wide open, Ms. Secretary. Now, come and get it like you took Baghdad.

2. While I have problems with this on a lot of levels. I'll pick just one
Football is NOT the world's most powerful sport. Soccer is. The world's most valuable franchise is a soccer team. The most watched sport in the world is soccer. Soccer generates infinitely more revenue every year than football could generate in twenty years.

3. The world would be a lot better off if Condi was NFL commish
and W was MLB commish, but I am sure that both sports would suffer greatly under their incompetent direction.

7. Dubya thinks MLB commissioner is a step up from his current job
Frankly I think Condi just wants less work.

4. With her classical training, Condi would make great license plates.
I hope it happens for her.

5. It found it appalling when she was promoted to SOS
After all the lying and manipulation. I agree with those who say she would best serve our country making license plates.

6. Nobody foresaw that...
- Letting refrees have ties to organized crime would be a problem.
- Showing the Super Bowl on Pay-Per-View only would lead to riots
- Lengthening the field to 120 yards would require stadium rebuilds

8. News flash from 2009: NFL attacks, conquers baseball.
In a prepared statement, Commissioner Rice said, "We had credible intelligence that Major League Baseball was a haven for Al Roker. I mean Al Qaida."
