John Gibson wants to build a wall to keep Mexicans out
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,188561,00.html

myword@foxnews.com

Here's my plan:

First, build a wall. If illegals can't get over or under or around a wall, you don't have illegals.

Second, establish an actual number of legal immigrants from Mexico and the OTM countries. Right now it's so close to zero, it might as well be zero. This is most often called a guest worker program.

Third, figure out what to do with the approximately 12 million illegals here now. Some simple rules there: Felons get put on the bus or the plane to the other side of the wall and they don't get back in.

snip

We have an unemployment rate of 4 percent and change. Evidently we need workers from south of the border who take spots on the bottom of the economic ladder.

1. And who will they get to build that wall?
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 10:17 PM by Midnight Rambler
Could it be... cheap Mexican labor?

6. Let's get the Germans to do it
I hear they're pretty good at putting up walls and fences along borders. Maybe they'll even throw in some extra guard towers or minefields.

7. John's trying so hard to be one of the big guns on FAUX
It's almost pitiful to watch him try to be more outrageous than insanity or falafel boy. He has to say stupid shit like this so people will talk about him. But I really don't think anybody gives a shit. His "war on xmas" crapola bombed and nobody takes him seriously.

17. Fortress 'Murka:mid-2000's::parachute pants:early 1980's
I've even read people at DU advocating the construction of such a wall.

The fucked up thing is if such a project were ever legislated, the government would have some private firm build it, and you know damn well that said company would use undocumented Mexican laborers to build the thing.

10. If every worker here in California illegally was
deported, there would be a hell of a lot of untended children, dead lawns, dirty houses and hotel rooms, unbussed tables in restaurants, business closures, construction site shutdowns, never mind chaos in the agriculture industry.

People here (particularly repukes) bitch and moan about "illegals," but this state depends heavily on the cheap labor they provide.

13. Oh, so he's fucking stupid and unrealistic as well as a bigot.
There is no way to stop illegal immigration, only ways to make it more difficult. Build a wall and only the most desperate and resourceful will find a way in, and likely make a profit bringing others in as well. The only way to come close to stopping it would be to severely punish people and businesses who hire illegals. Of course, that would triple the cost of most produce and construction here, but I'm sure people like Gibson would feel good about paying those prices if they didn't have to hear Spanish in their neighborhood.
