King of the 'christian' Right in Ohio, Phil Burress
Did you know that several of the 'christian' Right groups in Ohio are actually headed by one man?

Let's start by looking at the American Family Association of Ohio.

This little known group is headed by Burress.

The AFA of Ohio also created Science Excellence for All Ohioans. This group was one of the groups that was pushing 'intelligent' design on school students.

Families First is another group secretly headed by Burress.

"In the wake of the Cleveland Heights City Hall vote to offer health benefits to its workers with same-sex domestic partners, a small group named "Families First" began a petition drive to get the measure. While presenting itself as a local grassroots organization headed by a self professed homemaker named Tracy Moore, recent news reports have revealed that the group is in fact being guided by American Family Association of Ohio chairman Phil Burress.

Burress headed the drive to enact the notorious Cincinnati charter amendment, which specifically prevents the city from enacting any legal protections for gay people. The law is the only one of its kind in the nation, preventing Cincinnati from even considering laws to protect its gay and lesbian citizens from discrimination, or hate motivated violence.

"I got involved in this because I studied the homosexual movement," said Burress, "and found that their plan was to present themselves to the public as victims".

News reports contend that Families First contacted Burress within days after passage of the health benefits measure. Burress has counseled its members three times a week, and has also attended at least one of the city-sponsored community forums.

The petition drive to repeal the Cleveland Heights measure was unsuccessful."

So, did Phil Burress have any effect on the Marriage Amendment that Ohio had?

Yes.

Phil Burress is also the head of the Ohio Campaign to Protect Marriage. This group had strong influence and got Churches all over the state of Ohio tell them to basically vote for this Amendment.

Burress seems to be in it for himself, even though one of his groups is called the American Family Association of Ohio, another group he owns, the Citizens for Community Values, trumpets itself as a State Policy Council for Focus on the Family.

So, it's really not about Rod Parsley, Russell Johnson, and the Ohio Restoration Project. It's really all about the AFA of Ohio, Science Excellence for all Ohioans, Families First, Citizens for Community Values, the Ohio Campaign to Protect Marriage, and possibly other groups, and how they are all led by one man, Phil Burress.

The 'christian' Right in Ohio has a leader who has a Far Right Theocratic Agenda, and his name is Phil Burress.

1. Wow, that's really interesting.
You know, I wonder sometimes if these people purposefully start a lot of different groups so it will seem as though there are more of them than there really are.

2. Projection alert.
"I got involved in this because I studied the homosexual movement," said Burress, "and found that their plan was to present themselves to the public as victims".

Everywhere you turn you hear fundies presenting themselves as victims.
