$9 Trillion Debt because of Medicare and Social Security!

But if George had the line item veto, he could fix things!!!

That's what he's saying in his little speech today. What a fucking criminal. Bush, you are a traitorous bastard.

6. fascists see the old as ripe for execution.. they drain the Strong
I went to hi school with a fascist kid. He said things like.. diabetics spread weakness genes, so they should be killed before they breed and spread diabetges to more.

Nazis, you know, executed 'the weak" of every sort.

bush seems to view the OWS.. old, weak or sick... as disposable.

note how the GOP has zero plans to ever end homelessness... indeed they just added another million tossed onto the street, this budget year

4. He also said...
... that Democrats say that if they could raise taxes they could cut the deficit, but they would just find something else to spend it on.

As opposed to cutting government funding and then increasing the national debt by 58%.

What a fucking idiot!

5. Roughly half the national debt is consumer debt
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 10:53 AM by Selatius
The other half is on the government's bill. I would say though the biggest growth has come from the federal side of the equation, and I'd wager most of it came as a result of the tax cuts for the wealthy and the wars, not of Social Security and other social programs.

The national debt is an issue that requires fiscal discipline in the halls of Congress as well as in our own homes. You have to start teaching your children to be responsible with money. Money isn't free, and the sooner people realize this, the sooner they won't have to know the true power of compound interest applied to debt.

8. debt exists because we dont use Trumans ninety percent tax rate at top
that rate would speedily end all natl debt. It would double the fed budget.

even the RW guest on bob brinkers moneytalk radio show claimed debt exists because we do not tax much.

QUOTE
An electrical workers union has stepped up to buy Anchorage's liberal talk radio station, allowing operators to upgrade equipment, promote the station and broaden the state's political debate, Rich McClear, a co-owner of KUDO-AM 1080, said Thursday.

The Federal Communications Commission must still clear the $500,000 deal.

It wouldn't be the first union-owned radio station in the country. WCFL in Chicago, "The Voice of Labor," started in 1926 and broadcast for five decades.

And of course, labor financed an earlier attempt at national liberal talk, i.e. America, for some time.

This is a huge deal.

First of all, the purchase means the liberal talk format is not going anywhere (but up). The IBEW had even been looking into starting its own station of a similar bent before KUDO launched its current format.

The actual purchase of the station is only going to cost about $160,000. The rest of the money will go into promotion of the station (!!) and development of programming.

Unfortunately, the station buries Randi's show from 11 PM-1 AM, and for whatever reason, airs a local conservative host (!!!) in a sea of liberal programming, from 4-6 PM local time in the slot Randi would otherwise air. understand."

My gut is telling me that if they have any say into the programming, the IBEW folks may end his run on the station, but that's just a guess. Maybe that'll return Randi to at least afternoon drive...

9. I believe Social Security is still running a surplus.
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 10:59 AM by Jim__
Even if it is not currently running a surplus, it has surplus trust funds. In other words, the deficit is smaller than it would be w/o SS. Bush is an idiot - but we already know that.

12. They should really separate the federal budget and the SS budget
The only reason they combined the two was because Johnson was trying to hide the true costs of the Viet Nam War behind the surpluses that SS was having.

14. Oh yeah, I just love when people say this one......
a fairly good friend mentioned this type of statement when we celebrating St. Patrick's Day, I let her have it with both barrels. Then mentioned the corporate welfare that has gotten our state into a terrible way. All she could do was stare at me with her mouth open. I'm just sick to death of the people who think it's the welfare mothers.

15. I have found that liars just keep lying and have no shame about it
I've been dealing with this on a small scale recently, and chronic liars are impossible to change. They just keep lying. What we need to do is help our society become wise enough to recognize liars when it hears them and ignore them.
