Tweety jumps the shark - sounds like a pissed Democrat
First, he took on Bush: he said that he thought that the whole point of today's press conference was to blame the press for his failures in Iraq. He was PISSED off at Laura Ingraham's Today appearance, when she said NBC does not have journalists there. He said he is very proud of their reporter, and he prays for his safety, as he actually goes into dangerous places, not just a few bases, and that over 80 journalists have died in Iraq, so he thought they had done their share. He repeatedly said that bashing the press is NOT going to convince anyone who is turning against the war or the president and mentioned Rove's hand in this.

Then, Feinstein was on. He actually let her talk and put forth an intelligent plan on firing Rumsfeld and coming up with a coherent plan. She did a very good job putting forth a calm and rational criticism of this administration and Bush.

He just said to Stephen Hayes of the Weekly Standard that we all know that BushCo married 9/11 and Iraq, and that is why we were all so gung-ho going in. He told Hayes that they all know that they are fighting in the middle of a civil war there, and who to side with. He then said, GET THIS UNBELIEVABLE QUOTE, that Bush puts everyone together, THOSE WHO ARE FIGHTING BECAUSE WE ARE IN THEIR COUNTRY, and the terrorists who flew planes into our buildings, that they are all fungible with Bush.

Credit where credit is due. Welcome back to the land of reality, Mr. Matthews!! I guess your corporate bosses have turned against the war!!!

18. Amen to that. Tweety will be back to bashing Hillary
and kissing up to John "Straight Talk" McCain tomorrow night. And Iraq will be the Democrats' fault for "no viable alternative plans" and for "putting up no opposition" to Bush's Iraq adventure.

Tweety makes me sick. All Tweety cares about is Tweety.

20. Yeah, I was thinking that
because he has had shades of being reasonable recently. But tonight, he was really pissed. If he had any character, I would say he has seen them cross a line in the sand and he can't take it anymore. Being cynical, I think that GE has decided that the war is no longer profitable for them, so they want to "cut and run."

I think that's what he said when Dubya swaggered onto the aircraft carrier deck in his flight suit.

11. to be fair he has always been against the iraq war.
Here's my theory on tweety. He's been a life long dem, worked for Tip O'Niell and Jummy Carter for crying out loud...but he was pissed off at the sad sack campign run by gore in 2000 and that's when he turned.

12. Give him credit for today, but don't "welcome him back" just yet...
...this is what Tweety does best. Before you know it he'll be back to saluting Bush's "sunny nobility."

Seriously...go to the Media Matters web site and consider Matthews' consistency:

on the war.

19. Ratings and low poll numbers. You can only stick with Bush for so
long. Then it is futile. The peole aren't with the President which means you are losing the audience. You must change to keep viewers. Remember. It was only a week ago, I read, that Matthews was saying he didn't know why people didn't like the President. He's a nice personable guy. But with Bush in the tank, it is time to flip flop and get on board. These guys don't report. They entertain. And with that, one needs viewers.

and how tweety finally realized that people don't like Bush has sunk down into a deeper level of his little mind. Does he finally "Get it"? I doubt but you can always hope.

28. I think the "jumped the shark" expression refers to passing your prime and
crossing irreversibly into the land of mediocrity and irrelevance, not to changing "sides of the aisle" so to speak which your post implies.

In the original sense, Matthews "jumped the shark" long ago.

but I just like the image of Tweety jumping on the back of a Democratic shark, and the shark, acting collectively for the grassroots, biting him in the butt.

I just like it.
