The Soldiers speak
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 12:44 PM by DenaliDemocrat
I was on my way back from South Dakota yesterday, and was boarding my flight to Alaska in Chicago. A handful of young soldiers were returning to Ft. Wainwright from their tour of duty from Iraq.

Soldier 1: The first time I got hit with an IED, it ruptured my right ear drum. A few days later we hit another one that ruptured them both and made my brain bleed. They did not know if I was going to make it.

Soldier 2: That country is so fucked-up, I am just glad to be getting out of there. Are you going back?

Soldier 1: Fuck no! I'm not going back. I am out of there.

Soldier 2: Yeah, that country is fucked. Everyone hates it! Ask anyone, no one wants to be there...

and so it went.

Don't believe the hype. The soldiers want out and hate it too.

1. I wouldn't usually mention it, but there is a terrific typo...
in the story. Having said that, I was hit with my share of IUDs during my youth.

2. It only took hitting two IEDs and a bleeding brain to get out?

5. You're assuming that they will let him out
This is Bush's never ending war, they'll give him a few months of R&R and he'll be called back.

4. I know it's just a typo but I'm rolling here
I didn't know those things had ears...or a brain

ROFLMAO

Sorry....just the mental image of what would most likely "hit" an "IUD" was too much for me

You're right though....a good many troops have absolutely no desire to be in Iraq for any reason

6. I posted this suggestion under a different thread and want to repeat......
....it here. Please, listen me out here before jumping to any conclusions.

I think we liberals should come up with a very simple question for all soldiers to respond to. Something along the lines of, "Do you agree with Bush policies?", or "Do you agree with President Bush's assessment of the war on terror?" The potential answers would be along the line of; 1)Totally agree, 2) somewhat agree, 3) not sure (or) don't know 4) somewhat disagree, 5) totally or completely disagree.

This question could be posted on one or two web sites and then just let the word spread among the soldiers. They could respond to the question in emails that are disguised to sound like something totally different. Example; "You know me, 5) totally disagree that we should have baked beans when I return."

Families/soldiers willing to participate could compile the info and make it public by a different person in a completely different forum. This could finally convince the neocons that the info they have gotten is totally screwed up ESPECIALLY if the info was presented along the lines of "who are you going to believe, someone on the ground in Iraq or someone setting in Washington, DC nice and safe?"

I know some people might disagree with this idea but if it was handled right it could work very nicely and the neocons would never know what hit them.

7. A friend of mine who is a Special Forces officer
currently serving over there equated their mission to glorified cops. He said that he is just basically a beat cop in a very rough neighborhood.

My friend is a West Point graduate and an SF officer. The army has literally invested millions in his education, training, and equipment. He speaks several languages and holds an advanced degree in mechanical engineering.

It's really nice to see the Army putting his talents to maximum use.

8. Daughters HS friend just got back
He said he hated that SB, Bush. It's an outright lie that these kids love getting maimed and killed. This boy has an identical twin who didn't sign up in HS. Said he was there for three years and what a difference those three short years can make. He is a different person after watching innocents die. The boy never smiles, yet was just as polite to me as he was in HS. Says he can't keep a job, mood swings, and drinks himself to sleep at night. Does this sound to anyone like these kids want to fight in this bogus war?
