I'm guessing not all that many.. ONE ILLNESS can burn through that in no time. I wonder why some smart employees have not thought of suing the management of these companies for MALFEASANCE..

The negotiated pension benefits promised, but NOT delivered constitute THEFT of "wages" throughout the working lifetime of those employees..

They should sue, and demand the company as "payment".. They could probably run it better as a co-op :)

Every negotiation during all those years, the "benefits package" was touted as PART OF THEIR WAGES, and a reason why the paycheck would not reflect the increase, but "not to worry" they would see the deferred benefit in their retirement.. The employees kept their end of the bargain...management has been George-Bushing them for decades and they OWE that money..

1. That is assuming they don't have spouses who can cover them.

So if a spouse can cover them in retirement they might take the $$$ if not more than likely they won't.

2. I'd take the money
Just because I don't have any confidence that GM will be around 10-20 years from now to keep any promises they may have made.

4. My wife has her own Blue Cross
I'm still not taking the money. I'm taking the full retirement and 35,000 cash. I'm 52 with 30 years on the button.
