Only 25% of SD wanted this rediculous ban on abortions. Uhh, y'all "state's rights" repukes, where are you guys on THIS one? Oh yeah, I forgot, when they says "state's rights", that's just their code for KEEP DARKIE DOWN! And to top it off, SD had only ONE place where abortions were performed! ONE SINGLE SOLITARY PLACE! Here's the kicker: the doctor who did them, flew in from Milwaukee or Minneapolis (I forgot exactly where, but something like that) to (I think) Rapids City, did one day of "baby killing" and that was IT. But, ya know, the coat hanger is MUCH safer! :sarcasm:

Even without this latest ban, South Dakota was already one of the most difficult states in the country in which to get an abortion, those on both sides of the issue say. It is one of three states with only one abortion provider (Mississippi and North Dakota are the others), and its one clinic, the Planned Parenthood clinic in Sioux Falls, offers the procedure only once a week. Four doctors who fly in from Minnesota on a rotating basis perform the abortions, since no doctor in South Dakota will do so because of the heavy stigma attached.

About 800 abortions are performed each year in South Dakota, which has a population of 770,000 spread out over 77,000 square miles. Last year, South Dakota passed five laws to restrict abortions, including one that would compel doctors to tell women that they would be ending the life of a "whole, separate, unique human being." That law has been blocked by a lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood.

I included that last paragraph just to hit this home a little more: ONLY 800 ABORTIONS IN ONE YEAR. So, coming soon to a back alley near you: 800 abortions a year in South Dakota done with an ordinary household closet utensil!

At first the language put me off, but now I don't even really notice it. Can't wait for the new season!

There's a major reason I didn't move back there after college.

If they could get away with it, South Dakota would pass a law banning fire for being too "progressive and radical".

I still have family there, but I spend as little time there as I can.
I've even been trying to convince my parents to come back to their home state of Minnesota (tongue-in-cheek, of course)
and drag my sister and her *-loving, *-voting, and now laid off airline pilot (the irony is amazing) husband along for the ride,
but no such luck.
