I believe it was Kruthammer who said the far left has these "wacky impeachment" ideas. The Republicans set the standard on this one. How many years and millions of taxpayer money did the Republicans spend to embarrass Clinton? And all they got on him was a BJ.

Yet Republicans will overlook real, serious issues, which put America and its Constitution in jeopardy. Tony, you seem to feel having a President that breaks the law is OK as long as he's left alone to deal with "real problems."

Lobbyists writing our laws and bribing members of Congress and their staffs is a real problem.

Having Executive Branch staff out an undercover CIA operative during a time of war is a real problem.

And the list goes on and on and on and on...

But the final, REALLY BIG REAL PROBLEM is this: Allowing a President to break the law. That's it. The President of the United States of America should be held to a higher standard than ordinary, average Americans. He should set the tone for the nation. It is unacceptable to not hold him accountable for his decisions and actions. To allow a President to violate the law makes all the laws in this land a mockery.

So if you think for one minute that he should get away with these deeds, and that an attempt to hold him accountable is just "quibbling," you - Tony - also have a real problem. It sounds to me like you deserve your award.

Feingold really wants to impeach Bush, but he thought he would start with baby steps and introduce a Senate motion to publicly admonish the president (sic) over the terrorist surveillance program.

And what, may I ask, is wrong with that?

Bush should be impeached. For violating Americans' civil liberties, war crimes (invading Iraq based on a pack of deliberate lies) and crimes against humanity (creating a maintaining a network of gulags -- no apology for the word -- where combat detainees are kept incommunicado without charge, tortured and in some cases killed).

And Mr. Cheney, too. For all that and war profiteering and willfully conspiring to disclose the identity of a covert agent.

Then both of them should be tried, convicted and sentenced by an international tribunal to spend the rest of their natural lives in the UN prison in The Hague.

The only thing I find wrong with impeachment is that the Bush/Cheney ticket lost the election of 2000. They have no right to exercise the power that they claim. It should suffice to simply throw Mr. Bush's personal belongings on the White House lawn, grab the squatter by the scruff of his neck, throw him face down with his trash and tell him to walk back to Crawford.

Then tell Interpol where the suspected war criminal can be apprehended.

I am a regular on Democratic Underground but don't always read "The Top 10 Conservative Idiots" every week. Therefore I was unaware until a few minutes ago that you had been chosen for that honor. However, I can't resist commenting on a few points you brought up in your essay congratulating yourself on being among the chosen.

The first point is your claim that you exposed the Democratic Party's "hidden agenda" to impeach your so-called president. DU got a big collective laugh out of that one, because it's hardly a "hidden" agenda! We progressives (the people you call "far left" although most of us are actually center-left) want to impeach Bush so badly we can taste it! However, that just isn't possible until after the new Democratic Congress begins in January 2007.

But the funniest part of your essay is where you said: "...these kind of threats will rally Bush's base, which will turn out in November to make sure the House and Senate stay in GOP control."

OOOOOHHHH, Bush's formidable base! I am just SOOOO scared I'm shaking in my shoes! Bush's "base" is how big exactly? And growing by leaps and bounds, isn't it? The major polls seem to be running consistently at 33-37% approval, and I believe they are still padded. I suspect his true approval rating is about 30% or even lower. Well, the Republicans must have some secret plan to magically increase its size and/or fire it with enthusiam between now and November. About the only secret weapons that could possibly work for you are Diebold, Sequoia and ES&S. I will grant that they served you well in the past, but they are only reliable in close elections. If it looks like a Democratic landslide you're safer depending on popular support, which obviously would not exist.

So you can threaten us with "rallying your base" all you want, but it's an open secret now that you have very little base left to rally. Clearly DU showed its usual good judgment in naming you one of the "Top 10 Conservative Idiots." Congratulations, and I hope you move even further up the list in the future.
