Russia Had Sources in U.S. Command in Iraq
By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer

WASHINGTON - The Russian government had sources inside the American military command as it planned and executed the invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to Iraqi documents released as part of a Pentagon report.

The Russians passed information to Saddam Hussein on U.S. troop movements and plans during the opening days of the war, according to the report Friday.

The unclassified report does not assess the value of the information or provide details beyond citing two captured Iraqi documents that say the Russians collected information from sources "inside the American Central Command" and that battlefield intelligence was provided to Saddam through the Russian ambassador in Baghdad.

A classified version of the Pentagon report, titled "Iraqi Perspectives Project," is not being made public.

People are being set up for a fall.

The purge of those who oppose Bush policies within the DoD has commenced.

2. sniff.. sniff...
what's that I smell? Why it's our own little Ministry of Disinformation!

If the russians have a 'source' inside 'US Command in Iraq' we would not be letting the Russians know that we know. The Russians were certainly able to assess the situation: Iraq was about as likely as Grenada to survive the coming attack, and would not have blown their 'source' inside 'US Command in Iraq' on something like this.

3. I googled the writer, Burns. Does not seem like a propagandist
despite being in Townhall and Washington Times.

4. We had the Russians pass bad info to Saddam - and they did so as a favor
to us.

So now we want to hang the Russian cooperation out as a bad thing?

I can not follow the GOP spin on this one.

7. There has been an ongoing internal battle at DoD
Those who see the insanity of our present course have been trying to get the word out. Murtha's boys.

This Russian story is the cover for destroying their carreers. Anyone who dare speaks out against Bush will be tarred with it.

Just watch and see.

6. more info here
Army Brig. Gen. Anthony Cucolo of U.S. Joint Forces Command told a briefing he viewed Russia's decision to give intelligence to Saddam's government as "driven by economic interests." The report noted Russian business interests in Iraqi oil.

The revelations were contained in a report by the U.S. military's Joint Forces Command assessing the Iraqi view of events in the opening months of the war, from March to May 2003, based on interviews with senior Iraqi officials and captured documents.

The report said a document sent to Saddam on March 24, 2003, stated, "The information that the Russians have collected from their sources inside the American Central Command in Doha is that the United States is convinced that occupying Iraqi cities are (sic) impossible, and that they have changed their tactic," to avoid entering cities.

The report said this kind of information was "only one of the fog-generators obscuring the minds of Iraq's senior leadership."
