his grandson who was killed in a car wreck (I think). I am so sad......R.I.P. Erma and may God Bless the Byrd family in their hour of sadness.

9. So sad
69 years of marriage is a great thing, R.I.P. to Mrs. Byrd

BTW, I lurked over at FreakRepublic and one of their keywords for the story was "KKKWIFEDEAD", can you believe the dirty little freaks?

12. He has to be grieving
He once called his wife the "diamond" of the marriage. 69 years....what a beautiful couple.

13. How terribly sad.
Did someone say theirs was a 69-year marriage? How remarkable.

Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI) also just lost his wife, if I am not mistaken. Condolences to the families and circle of friends.

16. Indeed an all American family . . . wonderfully multicultural --
Fatemi (Lebanese?) and one grand-daughter-in-law who appears to be Asian American (hence the child's middle name Yoo?). Yep, that's what my family looks like too. We're a mixed bag from everywhere. Love it.
