Good Night and Good Luck - Dual Post / Poll and/or bump the review.

If not, it's already out on DVD rentals for $1.07 at McDonald's RedBox, so there is not excuse not to see it. Then go and rate it. At present, it's got only a "B" grade. I guess that's ok, but with 55.6% voting "A" it seems a little strange.

I just love anything that proves that traitor to America Reese Schoenfeld of CNN wrong.
He said Good Night and Good Luck would never get past limited release and only be seen by about 1 Million viewers.

Reese is also the guy who said it was the Media's obligation to lie for the government during time of war. (On the Big Show with John Gibson back around the time of DSM)

Very apropos to today and the lack of any Murrow's.

We have many independent media who are doing a great job of getting the info out. Like Will Pitt and many others. I met people involved with the media at the protest in DC in Sept '05 and they restated what I learned at a media fair in May 05. There ARE reporters wanting to cover the real news. The write it up and higher ups who have "the bottom line" mentallity shoot them down.

That's why the email and letter campaign to the stations whenever they show crap or call lies the truth and visa versa is helping to get real news back on the menu. It still has a long way to go, but it is better than before.

Anderson Cooper of CNN's 360 seems to be moving up in the ranks. But in this day and age, the people have to show support for these guys to do what they do. It takes more than one or two major investigative segments to counteract the misinformation feed. It isn't just one McCarthy and a silent minority behind him. The majority of the Senate and House will go into lock step with the corrupt administrations demands for full out propoganda if the people aren't constantly yelling at them. "Hey, knock it off. That ain't the truth and don't say it is."

I really appreciated Murrow's precision, his speaking
with precision in content and delivery, as the singer also
sang with precision. I thought this must have been Clooney's
point.

The only bad thing about the movie: I think I got cancer just
watching it.

it was good and is being replayed in so many ways today.

LOL on the "I think got Cancer just watching it" there sure was enough smoking in it...i swear i could smell the smoke.

I think this is going to be a movie I buy on DVD. I could watch it again and again.

I think a lot of people facing down their government would end up smoking if they knew for sure they would be a target. It teaches you to keep your hands from shaking.

Rented it a couple of weeks ago, watched it more than once. Relates very well to our present circumstances...kept thinking how nice it would be to have a 'real' journalist doing 'real' news again. When it counted, Murrow stood up for what he believed in and also took the heat.

(Thank you Mr 'pede for getting the new DVD player, even though we didn't talk about it beforehand) I remember Morrow very well from his Person to Person show when I was but a tiny tot, hee hee. Amazing how the things said in that movie apply just as well, or more so, today. A++.

...and sorry, I can't give it an "A".

Of course I loved the topicality and appreciated its coming out when it did.

Things I loved about it: Loved the topic. Loved the black & white, loved seeing the evil McCarthy speak for himself. Thought Clooney was okay but not great -- not sure the role called for greatness, I think he played it straight and a lot like the real guy. David Strathairn was GREAT as Edware R. Murrow, and Robert Downey Jr. was excellent also.

Things I thought fell short: The dramatic structure was really just straight ahead -- not enough ups and downs -- yes, yes I know that the news crew experienced ups and downs, it's just that it did not translate into cinematic ups and downs for the movie as a whole. And the fact that at least 50% of the dialog was hard if not downright impossible to make out, was a big minus for me.

Sorry -- I love Clooney, appreciate his making the movie and all that. But in my view it's a good, but not a great movie.

We proclaim ourselves indeed we are, defenders of freedom where ever it continues to exist in the world, but we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home. The actions of the Jr. Senator from Wisconsin have caused alarm and dismay among our allies abroad, and given considerable comfort to our enemies. And whose fault is that? Not really his, he didn’t create this situation of fear, he merely exploited it, and rather successfully. Cassius was right, “the fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves”.

I believed 20 years ago, and I believe today... that mature Americans can engage in conversation and controversy the clash of ideas of ideas with communists anywhere in the world without becoming contaminated or converted. I believe that our faith, our conviction, our determination are stronger than theirs, that we can compete and successfully, not only in the area of bombs, but in the area of ideas. I have worked for CBS for more than 19 years. The company has subscribed fully to my integrity and responsibility as a broadcaster, and as a loyal American. I require no lectures from the Jr. Senator from Wisconsin as to the dangers or terrors of communism. Having searched my conscience and my files, I cannot contend that I have always been right, or wise, but I have attempted to pursue the truth with some diligence and to report it, even though as in this case I had been warned in advance that I would be subjected to the attentions of Senator McCarthy.
We shall hope to deal with matters of more vital interests of the country next week.

the story line about the guy who suicided was way to predictable.
