So at hubby's conservative evangelical church today...

I was in adult Sunday School class and we were talking about negative images of Christianity in the media and one person cited Fred Phelps. I mentioned that I agreed it was too bad that he is being put out there as though he's some mainstream Christian leader. Then I said, "Really, it's too bad the people like the Christian Peacemakers and other human shields got such little play in the news for so long and even got really negative play from the war-loving media in terms of people calling them stupid or unpatriotic."

Then the woman who mentioned Fred Phelps looks at me like I had 3 heads and said, "I want some of that crack you've been smoking. The media hates the war and Bush and can't say enough about how awful he is. I can't even watch that Katie Couric anymore she's so awful talking about him. What channel have you been watching?" Two other people in class chimed in on that with her.

I almost died laughing and shot back with, "What have _you_ been watching... FOX?" But the Sunday school teacher broke it up and got us back on topic after that.

Still, if I get any email from her about it this week I will have to send her some articles and editorials about what a bang-up job the media did during the run up to war questioning every little move the fuhrer made. Oh wait, that's right. THEY DIDN'T! (If you have any faves of that nature feel free to list them here and I'll add them to the note. I want something ready to go the second I see something in my inbox from here. *l*)

That's what we have to start doing if were going to change these people's mind. Some take it more seriously than others. I had a "Catholic for Kerry" sticker on all during the summer and fall of 2004. I also have a Amy Klobuchar for US Senate one on which will stay until November. I tend to park near one of the main exits to the lot so most people get to see it. My parish is the most liberal in town, but it is not more than just slightly left of center.
