The worst idea I have of where "They" are leading this country.
"They've" realised that Capitalism can thrive in a Totalitarian state. <coff> China.

1. But there is every opportunity to attend the same old
"re-education" camps, where you learn that there isn't any global warming, there is really a lot of *good* news from Iraq, evolution is considered too complicated to have happened by chance, fascism is patriotic, and so on, and on, and on.

2. I tend to think that once China considers us too weak to do
anything about it, they'll simply declare ownership of all those factories that have moved over there and cut the owners out of the loop. In the long run, I don't think capitalism is compatible with totalitarianism at all.

3. Sure it is
Laissez Faire capitalism inevitably leads to oligarchy and monopoly, which is the very essense of totalitatianism.

4. Its a money thing.
Once we're too weak militarily and financially to stop them, why would they split profits between themselves and the owner when they can nationalize the company and have all the profits in their pockets?

Answer: They won't.

6. It's a complicated web
They own too many US financial instruments to play that crude of a game.

However, I agree that they'll play the US (and have been playing us) -and taking American money and assets bigtime.

5. Too late. China has done that at least twice that I know of.
Why any corporation thinks it can put down roots in a country with no private property rights, like Chi-com is beyond me.

7. Because they have the US Military
The ultimate trump card, that's what they think we are good for.
