Dozens Killed Near Area Bush Praised For War Progress


BAGHDAD, Iraq -- The Iraqi defense ministry says the death count is now at least 40 after a suicide bombing at an Iraqi army recruiting center. The U.S. military puts the number of dead at 30.

The center is in front of a joint U.S.-Iraqi military base about 18 miles east of Tal Afar, the ancient city President George W. Bush recently cited as a success story in the fight against insurgents.

2. Cities in Iraq that get singled out by Bush for praise should be very
afraid. A Bush advisor should have told him to swallow his pride and not go out of his way to talk about specific places and people in Iraq. Doing so made them a target.
