I really hope for the day when nations and borders simply do not exist
I was told a few years ago that there was a movement in the late 60's that was attempting to no longer recognize borders and instead move towards a world without nations. Today, although this concept is wholly unrealistic, I find it to be inspiring.
To me, a biologist, the ideas of race and nationality are merely social constructions that really have no basis for separating humans from one another; we're all H.sapiens and I see no reason to continue this idea that those of us from different ethnic backgrounds are somehow substantiallydifferent from someone across the world; the difference is culture.
If borders and this limiting idea of nationality is erased, I see more good coming from it than bad. We're all on the same planet,of the same species-- aren't we in this together?
The "us vs. them" mentality of anything is so silly when you think about how we're the same people.
Of course, this will never happen. But it is an interesting thought.

15. It should be shared and not for profit
I don't think natural resources belong to anyone.

8. LOL exactly what I was thinking
When every country, county, parish, city, etc... has a walmart - we will be united.

I thrive in the differences of culture. :) Might as well stay home otherwise.

18. Imperialist globalization depends on capitalist exploitation...
with one Imperialist state as the main profiteer, leeching off the labor of the world's workers and all nations' resources. (Read PNAC for further explanation)

That is NOT what the OP is referring to.

10. no, like no centralized form of power
Centralization of power AND allowing capitalism to run rampant would just have the opposite effect-- it would enslave most of the people and have only a few ruling. And that wouldn't be good at all.

9. "Globalization" is what corporations call it (unlimited flows of
capital across national boundaries). Communists and socialists like myself call it "Internaionalism" where the means of production are owned publicly and decisions made locally through the dialectical process. (Sorry to lapse into Marxist jargon, brain is fried and I need a nap.)

11. THAT'S what I'm talking about
I am not at all talking about Globalization--which is evil and a great wrong to the people.

Thank you for bringing me the correct term :hi:

13. It was like that once
a very long time ago. And it could be again, yes.

Do you know about the World Passport? http://www.worldservice.org/docpass.html

The World Passport represents the inalienable human right of freedom of travel on planet Earth. Therefore it is premised on the fundamental oneness or unity of the human community.
In modern times, the passport has become a symbol of national sovereignty and control by each nation-state. That control works both for citizens within a nation and all others outside. All nations thus collude in the system of control of travel rather than its freedom. If freedom of travel is one of the essential marks of the liberated human being, as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, then the very acceptance of a national passport is the mark of the slave, serf or subject. The World Passport is therefore a meaningful symbol and sometimes powerful tool for the implementation of the fundamental human right of freedom of travel. By its very existence it challenges the exclusive assumption of sovereignty of the nation-state system. It is designed however to conform to nation-state requirements for travel documents. It does not, however, indicate the nationality of its bearer, only his/her birthplace. It is therefore a neutral, apolitical document of identity and potential travel document.

A passport gains credibility only by its acceptance by authorities other than the issuing agent. The World Passport in this respect has a track record of over 50 years acceptance since it was first issued. Today over 150 countries have visaed it on a case-by-case basis. In short, the World Passport represents the one world we all live in and on. No one has the right to tell you you can't move freely on your natural birthplace! So don't leave home without one!

No, the US does not recognize it.

21. I'm with you 100% on this Wind Raven X. The fear of no boarders
is palpable to the masses who have been conditioned to believe themselves somehow special when compared to others.

I'm not suprised at all the misguided flack you are getting.

They killed John Lennon for saying this kind of stuff.....imagine.

22. Human survival instincts work in opposition to this.
It's great to kick this around in the abstract, but in reality, we are not built to live in such a situation.

Can you imagine wolves--or any animal--living with no regard to their territorial boundaries? They would not survive--and neither would we. Of course, it's easy to say we could do it if we could all learn to think identically and have the same goals and define things the same way. However, human intelligence and advanced communication skills make this more difficult, not less. I actually think you could train animals to have the same idea about something more easily.

Utopian ideals are frequently impossible. We cannot pretend things are workable when they just are not.
