This article, if accurate, provides important new details on the information that was alledgedly withheld from the 9/11 Commission Report at the behest of GOP lobbyists wotking for Pakistan. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/3/14/133330/930

It also appears to confirm that CIA had penetrated al-Qaeda with double-agents, and how Mr. Sheikh put a "secure" communications system in place that was ready-made for NSA interception.

Despite startling revelations about Islamabad’s involvement in the 9/11 by Newman, the military government of General Pervez Musharraf succeeded in getting vital information removed from the final report. Bin Laden referred to Sheikh as his son. No attempt was made to arrest when he returned to Pakistan from Kandahar where he was set free in exchange of Indian hostages in IC 814 episode. The ISI gave him a house and protection from the police. He lived openly and frequented swanky parties attended by senior government officials, observed Newman adding that the US government sources told Newsweek that he was a “protected asset” of the ISI. Sheikh, who carried many names, including Mustafa Ahmed, Mustafa Shmed al-Hasawi, Mustafa Mahmoud Saeed Ahmed, Mustafa Mohammed Ahmed, is a hijacking, kidnapping and financial expert. He was tasked with killing Daniel Pearl and is understood to have funded 9/11 by wiring $100,000 to Mohammed Atta.

Sheikh, the man about whom the Commission of Inquiry report utters no word, overhauled Al-Qaida’s logistics, communications and financial networks and was given responsibilities in international liaisons such as relations with the Hezbollah or the Sudanese National Islamic Front. To facilitate financial and communications needs, he designed a new secure, encrypted, web-based communications system for Al-Qaida. There was talk that he would someday succeed Bin Laden. Over and above all these responsibilities, Sheikh had another extremely sensitive job for Al-Qaida.

He was the group’s principal liaison with the ISI. He worked closely with various current and former officers of Pakistani intelligence, including Lieut-General Mohammed Aziz Khan, who along with President Pervez Musharraf himself, was the most powerful commander in Pakistan. A product of the London School of Economics, he went on to play a vital role in 9/11 by financing the hijackers. For his trouble, he received the same impersonal budget as the two other key coordinators, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi bin Al-Shibh. As the 9/11 attacks neared, ISI chief General Ahmed became more deeply mired in the plot, apparently to secure new sources of funds for the airline tickets needed for the reconnaissance flights on the date of the attack.

On the orders of the ISI chief, Sheikh wired the money to hijack leader Mohammad Atta. Flush with money, Atta Hamzi and Hanzour flew first class on the type of aircraft they would use on September 11, 2001. All this does not find mention in the commission report because both the USA and the British governments were keen to enlist Pakistan as a key ally in their attack on Afghanistan. Recent revelations in the Pakistani media have confirmed that Islamabad had paid tens of thousand dollars to lobbyists in the USA to get anti-Pakistan references dropped from the 9/11 report.

Saeed Sheikh is the smoking gun for 9/11 MIHOP for people who do not focus on "controlled demolition."

Here is the crux of these facts: the 9/11 hijackings were sponsored by a government other than Afghanistan's Taliban; it was also financed by Pakistan. The guy who paid for the 9/11 attacks flew to DC to meet with the US defense and intelligence establishment around 9/6/01.

The head of Pakistan's intelligence agency (the ISI) was General Mahmoud Ahmad. Gen. Ahmad ordered that $100,000 be sent to Mohammed Atta, the ringleader of the 9/11 hijackings, from his intelligence agency's funds. He ordered the notorious ISI operative Saeed Sheikh, at that time in Dubai, to send the money to Atta. Atta used the money for the expenses of the hijacking plot, including flight school training. Gen. Ahmad, therefore, was the paymaster of the 9/11 hijackings and attacks.

Gen. Ahmad, however, flew to Washington, DC, around 9/06/01, and met with his counterparts at the highest levels of the Bush administration: the Pentagon, the CIA, the State Department and the National Security Council.

At the moment that the planes were flying into the World Trade Centers, Gen. Ahmad, the paymaster of the 9/11 attacks, was having a breakfast meeting with the chairmen of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, Rep. Porter Goss (Republican) and Sen. Bob Graham (Democrat), both of Florida. According to mainstream media press reports, they were discussing terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.

Goss, as you must be aware, was a retired CIA agent and was thereafter appointed head of the CIA.

The journalist who reported these facts for the Wall Street Journal was Daniel Pearl. When Pearl tried to trace this money trail from Atta back to the Pakistan ISI, he was kidnapped and beheaded in Pakistan by none other than Saeed Sheikh.

All of this is public record in mainstream media sources, yet good progressive people refuse to learn these facts, and call anyone who cites these facts in support of either LIHOP or MIHOP as "wacky" conspiracy theorists.

Just Google Mahmoud Ahmad (or Ahmed) and 9/11 or Atta, and learn about the smoking gun.

Let's assume for the moment that this article is based in fact. Mr. Sheikh was a triple agent (or a double-agent working for several clients -- ISI, € and $), and that he actually gave good value to his clients over the years.

That would imply that Mr. Sheikh: 1) gave ISI good information about UBL; and 2) he installed a communications system that was easily monitored by British and US intelligence, and maintained the confidence of the western intelligence agencies, at least until 9/11.

Since Skeikh is still alive and under Pakistani protection, I'm going to assume that Sheikh was also telling Ahmed what CIA and MI6 thought they were learning through the bugged communications. A very valuable feedback loop for Pakistani intelligence. If ISI was indeed Sheikh's real employer all along, that would make him simply a Pakistani intelligence asset. The fact that he was also responsible for blowing up an Indian airliner (at a time that Pakistan and India were in an undeclared state of war), but was swapped back by India, and was subsequently never sought by either the UK or US on terrorism charges, also indicates that he was, in the final analysis, a Pakistani intelligence agent.

It appears to me that Mr. Sheikh and some faction of Pakistani intelligence was directly behind 9/11, or at least knew many details about the attack (but not everything), and either withheld that information from the US or the warnings were ignored.
