Bush Viewed Favorably by Nearly Everyone & Would WIn A Third Term
March 28, 2006
Margin For Error: The Bush Base
From last Friday's Hotline:

There's a world out there where Pres. Bush can do no wrong. He's viewed favorably by nearly everyone, his approval rating is 100% and he'd win a third term, if possible, without breaking a sweat.

This is Bush's base (approx. 45% of the entire GOP). According to the latest Diageo/Hotline poll, they're older (more than half are over 55 which translates into being "very likely" midterm voters), go to church weekly, and almost all of them are white. They oppose abortion rights, and, like VP Cheney himself, they listen to Rush and O'Reilly. And while DC is abuzz with talk that the faithful are weary and fractured, the poll shows they'll be a force at the ballot box.

In '08, they're not looking for a renegade, but someone who more fits the Bush. They're not huge fans of McCain, who leads the list of GOPers they'd never support. Among Bush's base, McCain trails
Giuliani in '08 matchups.

Also, note how a plurality of all GOPers think Bush has been a worse president than Reagan. But among the most die-hard Bushies, most think he's been as good or better.

2. or do you mean "good nazis"
because not all germans were nazis or hated jews.

That would make you and I "good Americans" in quotes.

17. "Good Germans" is a historical reference.
Those who had faith that their Leader would do the right thing in spite of a mountain of evidence to the contrary, and either refused to acknowledge or accepted as necessary his treatment of Jews, political dissidents, and other minorities.

The "Good Germans" were the Nazis - or those who supported them - just as the hard-core GOP faithful who support an illegal war & torture of POWs and the one-party state are "Good Americans".

3. That is scary
We must hope that in November the anti-Bush sentiment amongst the rest of us will be enough to counter these nuts.

RNC Memo Warns GOPers Not To Distance Themselves From Bush

President Bush drives our image and will do so until we have real national front-runners for the '08 nomination. Attacking the President is counter productive for all Republicans, not just the candidates launching the attacks. If he drops, we all drop.

Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 06:22 PM by IanDB1
It would explain some of the crazy things Gay Bobby Traynor puts on paper for Rick Santorum to read aloud.

The GOP needs to go on an anti-gay witch hunt within their own party to really shake things up a little.

Say...

Is THAT why Andy Card resigned?

Some people say.

18. IMO:
they had better start tackling that problem too, or we will wind up with the very same occurrence for 08! With the religious right voting the way they do, and with that Diebold problem, you can see how that can make up a huge difference in the number of votes that Progressives will receive.

Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 06:20 PM by IanDB1
what Bush used Katrina to do to New Orleans' Democratic base.

Not saying I hope it happens.

Just that it might.

Maybe we can trick the Republicans into making sure Medicare Plan D doesn't cover flu shots.

And that infants get priority over old people come flu season.

20. The irony
these people go to church, and so probably feel very pious, and yet get their information from a thrice-divorced closet queen who was once on welfare, and a lecherous adulterer who's been sued for sexual harrassment.

22. And they prefer Ghouliani?
to McCain?

“I’m pro-choice. I’m pro-gay rights,” Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. “No, I have not supported that, and I don’t see my position on that changing,” he responded.

23. Two live next door to me
and another two work at my beauty salon. The two at my beauty salon have told me (after spotting my bumper stickers) that I should watch Fox news because it's FAIR and BALANCED!! And yes, they have shouted, the pukes. My stylist is a Dem and handicapped and I was going to leave the salon but decided not to because she's great and I decided not to let these mindless drones run off her clientele.
