Spent the day painting homemade freeway blogging signs (you should too)

Check out the freewayblogger's webpage. She's awesome. She was featured on Michael Moore's webpage this week trying to encourage everyone to post signs across the country. I hope all you DUers will support her effort by posting a few signs in your town.

Every one of us can make this kind of noise. The Freewayblogger needs our help!!

I used old cardboard, house paint, and a magic marker to make these signs. Notice how they can fold into smaller size for ease of carrying. I plan to use twist ties or binder clips to attach to traffic heavy places around town.

3. awesome!! Another thing people can do is use plastic cups
the colorful kind and stick them in fences to spell out messages - it's hard to take down and easy to do!

19. Actually I also like this idea but I try to do very quick posts
I can see myself screwing it all up if I stand around too long with cups. Will try one though because it does sound fun.

6. I thought the freeway blogger was a guy?
Didn't he talk about his wife leaving him when he first started doing this?

I have some cardboard all painted white. I should join you soon!

7. Well, you might be right
I just figured "Scarlet P" was a she. Ha Ha.

I guess I can still compete for the title of queen of freeway bloggers after all.

8. That's short for
Scarlet Pimpernel! Many of us ARE female though. I have taken my kids with me too. My daughter, who will be 14 in a few months LOVES to do it with me! You go, GO!

12. The freewayblogger uses an overhead projector
I was going to use my slide projector to porject the images on the wall, but I couldn't find the cord (obsolete junk), so went with freehand.

24. Excel does a great job of making large posters
It even tiles the output so you can print on 8.5x11 and put it all together.

You will need to key in a font size like "240" (since the options go up to only 96 points or so) or you can use the scale output option but I prefer to layout in actual size (easier to adjust). Once you have gone to print preview, you can see where the pages will break when you return to the normal view.

Be sure to set your margins small to save paper.

Work for photos also (Insert - Picture - From file). Grab a corner and stretch that baby. Zooming the view to 50 or 25% helps you see it all on screen.

26. I considered more advanced technology BUT
using the computor doesn't help you practice calligraphy. Making signs by hand does.

But your post gave me a great idea for generic signs I could produce using a real font. I can easily make templates on pc for fancier stuff using transparencies and use them as pattern pieces. Gonna go try it right now!
