Would this bother you? Touchscreen evoting machines were used in my county
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 01:10 AM by in_cog_ni_to
in the Illinois Primary. Tonight's newspaper had a front page story about how "helpful" 28 Olivet Nazarene University students were during the primary election. They were available to help with the evoting machines in case of problems (They did have problems with them) and THEY HELPED SET THEM UP and HERE'S THE KICKER....Olivet Nazarene University STORED THE FREAKIN' MACHINES before the election and after the election....of course the ballots were removed from the machines after the election before Olivet took them in for storage.:eyes: I read this and my first question was WHY does Olivet Nazarene University need to store our EVOTING MACHINES? What did they do to them while they were in storage? Could a computer savvy student get any info from the software? WHY are STUDENTS from a RW University SETTING UP OUR EVOTING MACHINES? Am I being paranoid?

Jerry Weller (Repuke) gave Olivet University a $250,000 grant for their science dept. last year (payoff for hacking the machines or setting them up for repukes?). It's a RW University. The whole thing makes me ill.:( Do you find any of this curious? Why Olivet students and not students from our Community College? Why is the University involved in the process AT ALL? They were the ONLY SOURCE FOR STORAGE OF THESE MACHINES? I think it stinks. The day after the election the newspaper printed a rundown of how all the precincts voted and this county voted overwhelmingly repuke. Tell me what you think. Do you think this is appropriate?

1. I don't like any electronic voting machines.
Do you know what brand they are (Diebold, Sequoia)?

3. Faith based voting.
In NYC, the Board of Elections keeps custody of the machines. What good is it otherwise?

6. I guess this is the answer to your question:
"Jerry Weller (Repuke) gave Olivet University a $250,000 grant for their science dept. last year (payoff for hacking the machines or setting them up for repukes?)."

One hand washes the other.

It doesn't matter who has the machines once they are outside the custody of the Board of Elections. They are subject to tampering, and cannot be trusted. It is the Board's responsibility to safeguard the machines. They can't do that when someone outside the Board has custody.

How did they get away with this? I guess that's a rhetorical question since they get away with so much.

7. How did they get away with this?
Because no one pays attention. I pay attention and didn't even know our county was using touchscreen evoting machines until the day AFTER the election and problems with them were reported in our local paper.:( In MY precinct, we use optical scan machines.

I wonder how many of the people who work at the Board of Elections know those machines are NOT tamper proof? I suspect they're repukes and know very well the machines can be hacked. I would LOVE to know whose bright idea it was to use]/i] the RW University in our election process. Was it Weller's idea? I would also like to know the political make-up of my county's Board of Elections. Want to bet their repukes?

8. In MY precinct, we use optical scan machines.
That's what we use.
We mark it with a marker, then send it in the machine. I prefer that.

FYI: Many years ago,we used to have the CHADS in Sarasota County,Fl, and they WERE/ARE hard to read. I had to look twice to punch the right spot.

I moved to the next county, and no chads.

10. I think it is because the people who are dems are mostly nice
people and so we aren't guarded against this in your face type shit that the re:puke:s are engaging in. I think kkkarl is the brains behind it too. In our precinct we use optical scan machines and I don't really trust that technology either, the fees that it cost to have a recount is so high that nobody can afford to do them so we are stuck with what the machines say. I say paper ballots hand counted, even if it took days or weeks for the results at least they would be honest. With honesty we wouldn't be where we are today.

my two cents worth anyway
