"The kind of progress that we and the Iraqi people are making in places like Tal Afar is not easy to capture in a short clip on the evening news. Footage of children playing, or shops opening, and people resuming their normal lives will never be as dramatic as the footage of an IED explosion, or the destruction of a mosque, or soldiers and civilians being killed or injured."
That same town that Bush singled out by as a success story and an example of the "good news" from Iraq was last night the scene of a suicide bombing that killed at least 40 people and wounded 20 others.
"Forty people have been killed and 20 wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the midst of candidates waiting at the army recruitment centre," an Interior Ministry official said.
