Under DOS attack
by kos
Wed Mar 29, 2006 at 10:50:53 AM PDT

We are currently being hit with a Denial of Service attack. We're got lots of people fighting the attack and working to get the site back up. Thank you for your patience.

Overloading the service/server, preventing others from using it.
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 01:38 PM by TahitiNut
All services have load limits. Using a variety of approaches, those limits can be exceeded and make any service unavailable to others. A DoS attack often involves the use of infected systems, where a trojan horse (or worm) has been placed on the system permitting others to take it over and add to a traffic load on the targeted service.

Yes, I don't understand all this....who does this these things mean?--
I've noticed many links to 'important or embarrassing' things about the GOP do not work or you get an error. (Sometimes you are not allowed.) For us internet or computer dummies, sometimes it is frightening with this spying stuff going on.....some of us are just trying to get informed. Please PM me with an answer if you want and I'll explain my reason why I'm so concerned.

10. Reston VA, HMMM
NSA is in Reston

"Reston-based, SI International, an information technology and network solutions (IT) company has been awarded a new prime contract to provide human resources support services to the Welcome Center at the National Security Agency (NSA)."

http://www.triangletechjournal.com/news/article.html?item_id=1128

I wonder what kind of WELCOME CENTER there is at the NSA?

12. it's a contrator, not NSA itself.
Reston is nothing BUT government contractors and think tanks and beltway bandits and various IT and technology firms.

BTW, NSA is in Maryland...

I bet the DOS is coming from some RWers from Freak Republic.

13. I just tried reading the article at DailyKos
It came up but my computer went goofy, couldn't scroll, commands wouldn't work, and my hard drive went hyper. Had to reboot to get off.
