Since Lou is broadcasting from Cansun tonight, WHY was Shrub in DC giving some stupid speech? Isn't he supposed to be there NOW for this summit?????
Lou Dobbs Tonight, Live From Cancun
Thursday, March 29, 2006
Tonight, Lou broadcasts live from Cancun, Mexico, where the
leaders of North America, President Bush, Mexican President
Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, are
meeting for a two-day summit. We'll bring you the latest on
their meeting and examine the issues under discussion.
While the Cancun summit is supposed to be a display of unity by
the three leaders, Mexico is failing to live up to its promise
to cooperate with US law enforcement on border security. We’ll
have that report.
At the last North America summit in Waco, Texas, the leaders of
the United States, Mexico and Canada launched what is known as
the "Security and Prosperity Partnership" - an agreement to
create a security perimeter and ease trade barriers throughout
North America. The idea is to allow the free flow of goods and
people from Mexico all the way to Canada. But, critics say that
the so-called partnership will result in nothing more than the
United States' absorption of Mexico, a country which is not on
economic parity with the United States.
Local politicians are fed up with the lack of help from the
federal government as illegal aliens continue to strain their
communities. They are speaking out, taking action on their own,
and banning together to pressure Congress. We visit Vineland,
NJ, whose Mayor says illegal immigrants are overcrowding
housing, committing crimes and stressing the health care
system.
We’ll take a look at internal politics in Mexico. Latin America
is swinging left, and now so is Mexico. Mexico’s next national
elections are in July and the presidential front runner is
Andrés Manuel López Obrador. This candidate favors scrapping
NAFTA and protecting Mexico's markets and industries from
suffocating foreign competition.
And we’ll explore the relationship between Canada and the
United States. The relationship between two countries suffered
a fracture because of the Iraq war. Now that Conservative Prime
Minister, Stephen Harper is in office, we’ll tell you what can
we expect for US-Canada relations when it comes to border and
trade issues.
And as President Bush meet with his counterparts from Mexico
and Canada, Congress is working to reform our broken
immigration system. John Trasvina from the Mexican American
Legal Defense and Educational Fund joins Lou to discuss the
immigration legislation pending before the full Senate. And
Hector Flores, National President of the League of United Latin
American Citizens, explains his stance on illegal aliens.
