CNN reporting Rep. Cynthia McKinney struck a police officer
Officer filing charges against her. McKinney supposedly went around metal detector because she didn't have identification with her. Officer didn't recognize her and chased her. Said he tapped her on the shoulder to ask for ID and she smacked him with a cell phone. That';s the police officer's story anyway.

10. Members of Congress do not have to go through the metal detectors
Rep. McKinney has been one of the few of our elected officials to stick her neck out and actually represent THE PEOPLE. She has been slimed before, and it sounds as though they are gunning for her again.

33. Yes. *IF* she went around the metal detector w/o ID
*AND* if the guard didn't know who she was, then they should have followed her and STEPPED IN FRONT OF HER to let her know that they needed to speak to her. That is of course, unless all of the rw sources that are being quoted are not saying that she took off in a sprint in an attempt to evade authorities :eyes:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/29/AR2006032901981_pf.html

Members of Congress do not have to walk through metal detectors as they enter buildings on the Capitol complex. They wear lapel pins identifying them as members.

McKinney routinely doesn't wear her pin and is recognized by many officers, the police official said, adding that she wasn't wearing it when she entered a House office building early Wednesday.

By one police account, she walked around a metal detector and an officer asked her several times to stop. When she did not, the officer tried to stop her, and she then struck the officer, according to that account.

Sounds pretty damned stupid to me.

I'd recommend a review of security procedures and policy. Looks to me like anywhere you have a metal detector and guards would be a good place to have a camera too.

If the guard waited until after they were out of camera range, I'd like to know why.

Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) punched a U.S. Capitol Police officer today after he mistakenly pursued her for failing to pass through a metal detector.

Members are not required to pass through metal detectors and the officer, manning a position at Longworth House Office Building, apparently did not recognize McKinney and didn't see her Member pin.

The officer called out "Ma'am, Ma'am," in an attempt to stop her.

When the officer caught up to McKinney, he grabbed her by the arm.

McKinney pulled her arm away, swung around, cell phone in hand, and punched the officer square in the chest, according to the witness.

McKinney's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

McKinney in Altercation with Capitol Police officer
By Jonathan E. Kaplan and Josephine Hearn

A U.S. Capitol Police officer is considering filing assault charges against Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) after an altercation in which she allegedly hit him after he asked to see identification, according to a source familiar with the incident.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:50 this morning at the New Jersey Avenue and C Street entrance to the Longworth Building. As McKinney was entering the building, the officer stopped her and asked her for her ID.

McKinney allegedly hit him before identifying herself as a member of Congress and walking away, the source said.

The lawmaker's office would not comment on the incident.

Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, spokeswoman for the Capitol Police, was unable to confirm the details of the account.

"The matter has been brought to our attention and is currently under investigation," she said.

Jackie Kucinich contributed to this report.

A little explaination in a time of questions can go a long way.

I live in Ga., and I respect Cynthia for her bravery in the way she speaks and isn't afraid of criticizm. But I also suspect she thougt EVERYBODY KNOWS ME! She's just like that.

There are always such things as NEW Cap Police ya know!

This is similar to when Ted Kennedy was prevented from boarding a plane from DC to Boston...the same flight he's taken for many, many years! He was told his name was on the no-fly list! Now, I would have thought EVERYBODY in National Airport would know Ted, but he didn't smack the attendant!

GOP House staff have sent out an email claiming Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney hit a capitol hill police officer today.

John Hawkins has this:

According to a source on the Hill, Cynthia McKinney was entering the building - a cop asked her to wait b/c he was screening people and she smacked him.

Bizarre...

53. Was McKinney talking on the cell phone she was carrying?....
....Is it possible she just didn't hear the officer, and/or was concentrating on the phone conversation?

Just because the police official stated that "McKinney routinely doesn't wear her pin", doesn't necessarily make it so, does it so?

And which officer is responsible for the so-called "police account"? Would it happen to be the same officer that tried to stop her by grabbing her arm from behind?

47. In one of the 9/11 docs I have, she...
Openly states that the American people are going to have to realize that their government is a crime syndicate. {paraphrasing} She's quite outspoken about 9/11, so it doesn't surprise me that she's under considerable pressure.

64. This government is worse than a Crime Syndicate

They wrap themselves in sssssssrightousness and claim they own the world.

They are bullies and greedy slum lords and the killers of innocent people.

Cynthia was exactly right!
