Some reasons to support citizenship for illegal immigrants
Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 03:16 PM by Mountainman
It is practically impossible to round up 11 million undocumented immigrants to deport them. Their children born here are American citizens. Deporting the children would not happen and deporting their parents is cruel.

As citizens these immigrants will have rights and will vote. They most likely would vote for issues liberals favor. As seen by their ability to form large protest movements, they political power is helpful to all working class people because any social justice laws that improves their lives improves all our lives. This was seen with the civil rights and woman's movements. (hint, what benefits gay rights also benefits us all).

The guest worker program will be used to make up a class of low wage workers with no rights and will be used to lower the wages and rights of all workers in the country. As citizens they will pay taxes and pay into social security, form unions and press for just working conditions.

Basically what I am saying is that the political and cultural power these immigrants will have will benefit us all.

1. Even some "guest worker" programs allow for eventual citizenship.
But guest workers shipped in & then shipped out won't help anyone. Just deporting everyone won't work--so we need some way to get these people into the system.

Bush & Fox are meeting soon. Fox has tried to propose immigration agreements since Bush came in--including bettering the situation in Mexico. He belongs to the Mexican conservative party, but it's not the same as our Right Wing. And, yes, there is corruption in Mexico--but it was there long before Fox.

But Bush has never had anything to offer.
