Impeaching Bush won't do it. Crimes against humanity is the needed charge.
If Bush is impeached, the succession is Cheney, Dennis Hastert, Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska, (the current president pro tempore of the senate), Condi, Rumsfeld, and on through Bush's crony cabinet.

To break their illegal hold on power (through stolen elections) they can be charged with crimes against humanity.

After WWII, we and our allies established the principle for crimes against humanity which states:

"Crimes against humanity: murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation, and other inhumane acts committed against civilian populations, before or during the war; or persecutions on political, racial or religious grounds in execution of or in connection with any crime within the jurisdiction of the Tribunal, whether or not in violation of the domestic law of the country where perpetrated."

http://www.crimesofwar.org/thebook/crimes-against-humanity.html

It wasn't just the German leaders who were brought up on these charges. It extended to judges, businessmen and others who aided and abetted the "inhumane acts against civilians." -- crimes that are presently being committed in Iraq, Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, and many other places whose names we don't even know.

I'm not a lawyer, so there are probably legal flaws in this suggestion. But as radical as this solution may sound, Germany has been one of the world's leading democracies since the Nuremberg trials.

The biggest problem with this, however, is how could we pull it off.

1. Wait until he leaves the country after he's out of office.
They'll pull a "Pinocet" on him so fast it will take him WEEKS to even figure out he's in a cell in The Hague.

3. You are absolutely right...Crimes against Humanity....
is the only true way to gut our government of the cancer that resides there....

I don't think it's radical...I think it may be the only way for America to start rebuilding old alliances and creating new ones around the world...

If we the US are not willing to subject our leaders to the Hague....we have no say so when it comes to other world leaders and their crimes....

To the Hague....

4. I've been saying this for years....
The invasion of Iraq is a war of aggression, defined under international law and U.S. treaty as a crime against humanity. Arguably, so was the economic embargo of Iraq which killed approximately 1 million non-combatants, but the U.N. was a broader participant in that crime, so it's even less likely to be prosecuted. But yes, the Bush administration should be charged and tried for crimes against humanity. I hope to live long enough to see the day when Bush stands in the dock at The Hague.
