A MESSAGE FROM HELEN!!!
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 11:02 AM by helderheid
I just received this from Kristen Collie from Helen Thomas's office!!

Helen asked me to send you the following note from her to post under forums
on the website - www.democraticunderground.com

Blessed are the peacemakers. The bounty of beautiful roses from such
wonderful people has lifted my heart and will remain in my memory for the
rest of my life. Thank you for caring that others may live.
Helen Thomas
Columnist, Hearst Newspapers

26. I am so glad that the rose campaign made Helen happy...
With all the crapola she takes from the Bush administration, she deserves to know how very much she is appreciated.

I hope that at least a few Republicans are aware of the 100 dozen roses sent to her.

I especially wish that Scott McClellan could see the pics. He is such a king-sized ass hole. He announced that his mother was running for some state office a couple months ago. If she is anything like him...PUKE!

31. I knew it would. I'm so glad. This was beautiful.
This is the pinnacle of life: when you can see a flower bloom. When a sad face turns into a smile. When weak becomes strong. Sick becomes well. Hate becomes love. Hunger fades to fulfillment. Boredom is replaced with excitement.

These are the things that bring a tear to my eyes. I am overwhelmed by these things.

Thank you for the opportunity to be here.

41. She's a tiny 80+-year-old-woman - a demographic that would imply
public insignificance and invisibility in our culture - and look at what she is and continues to do every day. While working to save the best of our country, she epitomizes it. She teaches and inspires us all, and that's so vital in this dark time when it's hard to keep going sometimes.

"In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit." –Albert Schweitzer, philosopher, physician, and musician (1875-1965)

Your courage and tenacity in seeking after the truth are an inspiration to us all, especially when it's clear that were it not for you the really important questions would likely never be asked at all.
:loveya:

And as far as the hate mail goes, you can bet that it's 99.999% from pot bellied, beer gutted, freerperzoid wingnuts (probably still living in their Mom's basement) who don't have the courage of their own convictions, otherwise they'd be doing their bit over in Iraq and Afghanistan right now and would be too busy fighting evil doers to have the time to write filthy emails to a true defender of the Constitution of the United Sates and the Bill of Rights like yourself.

The roses are just a symbol of our gratitude for being there, being square, and leveling the truth unto the minds of the reader, the viewer, and best of all, the corrupt politicians.

She is a gem, and I'm happy she now knows that there are many people out there that appreciaqte her. She has made a difference in people's lives and I hope she can continue to do so for a long, long, time...

67. I can only hope that our next generation has journalists like Helen!
She and other journalists of her generation and earlier generations (folks like Edward R. Murrow, Bill Moyers, and Walter Cronkite) have had a great set of careers and set the examples for great journalism. I can only hope that the newer consolidated corporate media don't stifle this newer generation coming on and prevent us from having those like Helen helping to inform us in the future! Hopefully they can someday reward the Brad Friedman's of the world who are still trying.

Helen you are wonderful and deserve every rose petal you got yesterday! Was happy to have helped contribute!

This effort has reduced me to tears of happiness and joy on three occasions.

I'm so pleased you've warmed the heart of a woman who deserves far more respect and admiration than just about anyone in government and the media these days.

helderheld bless you and all those who donated and volunteered.

93. Me too. Great going everyone!
I guess the "flower drive" happened during a week that I was mostly offline, so I missed it. I"m so pleased that so many here were able to contribute though! A fantastic job everyone-it's great to see such a wonderful smile on the face of one of America's last true journalists!

Flowers for Helen, Always!!

Helen Thomas ROCKS. I wish I could have donated more money but it looks like the FABULOUS VOLUNTEERS had more than enough to keep them busy!

But on the other side of the coin this highlights a tragic fact: our journalists have become so lazy that they have made Helen's questioning of the President seem extraordinarily brave. We need more like Helen in the WH press corps.

HOORAH! Well done everyone!

even though I didn't have the money to contribute to this particular effort.

It says something very ironic and sad about the present state of our country that someone deserves a heroine's tribute JUST for doing her job and being an honest journalist. Thanks to everyone who organized this effort and everyone who donated for letting this great lady know there are still a few people in America who honor truth and truth-tellers.

Edited to fix typo.

.

Helen Thomas. What a gem she is. America greatly appreciates Ms. Thomas.

Stands up and states her questions, unintimidated. Flowers and accolades so well deserved for her many years of journalism service.

The rock of D.C. journalism. You put those 'youngsters' to shame, Helen. You go, Helen, you go.

May the wind always be at your back and the sun shine warm in your face. Give em hell, Helen.

163. See this wise old woman, DNC? That's your job: find her courage.
Rock on, Helen.

If only we had an opposition party as keen-sighted and courageous as you!

166. I keep thinking that too. It's the gimmicky stuff that wakes folks up.
