Buckley Says Bush Will Be Judged on Iraq War, Now a `Failure'
Buckley Says Bush Will Be Judged on Iraq War, Now a `Failure'
March 31 (Bloomberg)

-- William F. Buckley Jr., the longtime conservative writer and leader, said George W. Bush's presidency will be judged entirely by the outcome of a war in Iraq that is now a failure.

``Mr. Bush is in the hands of a fortune that will be unremitting on the point of Iraq,'' Buckley said in an interview that will air on Bloomberg Television this weekend. ``If he'd invented the Bill of Rights it wouldn't get him out of his jam.''

Buckley said he doesn't have a formula for getting out of Iraq, though he said ``it's important that we acknowledge in the inner councils of state that it (the war) has failed, so that we should look for opportunities to cope with that failure.''

The 80-year-old Buckley is among a handful of prominent conservatives who are criticizing the war. Asked who is to blame for what he deems a failure, Buckley said, ``the president,'' adding that ``he doesn't hesitate to accept responsibility.''

causes the tax breaks to the rich to be rolled back, large corporate subsidies to be eliminated and reparations to be made.

Blowing it out his ass here. Who is he playing to? Some future jury?

conjecture even before it happened. Many DUers said so, early and often, so Buckley's conclusion here is not revelatory.

But it is accurate to say that Bush = Iraq and that Iraq = failure; therefore, Bush = failure, if that's what Buckley is getting to.

So far I haven't seen too many Bush administration sycophants taking any responsibility for the foreign policy disaster and the loss of lives of the Coalition and of Iraqi citizens, with the gleaming exception of Richard Clarke, who was probably let go because he was NOT a sycophant.

I appreciate reading this post because it is one more high-profile conservative voice suggesting that Dubya is taking water and is sinking on the horizon.

9. Welcome to DU!
Everyone has a right to express opinions. As for %99 of DUers not liking Bush as their Prez. - It's more like %110 that do not like him as our Prez, especially since a good number believe he stole the first and second elections & should not even be prez. He has done a some things I like - Got the no-call list going & setup a t-ball baseball field in the white house. His guest worker plan has some merit as well. But overall - You're doing a heck of a job George

14. No kidding. 34% approval and that coincides with the Saddam behind 9/11
believers.

My prediction (I know I'm going out on a limb here ;) ) is that Xing is not long for these parts.

13. Bush judged on a lot of other things too
this most inept 'president' will be also judged by his indifference to tragedy eg. Hurricane Katrina and 9/11

15. Buckley seems to have an odd opinion of DICK. Esp. considering DICK
helped to CREATE the intelligence used. DICK wasn't misled. DICK did the misleading!
