My predictions for 2006

- Iran will be invaded
- Saddam Hussein will be executed (even though he's completely innocent of 9/11 and has no ties with Osama bin Laden, thus creating a double standard in which the US still supports equally brutal as, if not worse than, Saddam)
- Iraq will go into full-fledged civil war
- The US military causality rate will soar dramatically
- More kidnappings and killing of innocents civilian in Iraq
- That sleaze ball, Amid Chalabi will rise in power
- More terrorist attacks around the world
- More prisoners tortured and abused
- George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush will live happily ever after
- No one will help in New Orleans
- Jose Pallida will spend a another year in prison
- More "Terra" alerts elevated
- Goodbye Roe V. Wade
- Howard Stern will lose his career
- Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly will be more popular than ever before
- Osama bin Laden will still be on the loose and thumbing his nose on us
- And if we're lucky, another 9/11 style attack on America and Chimpy will do nothing about it like last time.
- America as we know will be dead!

- Iran won't be invaded, the US military is overstretched as it is in Iraq. Invasion of Iran would require reinstitution of the draft, and that's not going to happen next year.
- Saddam deserves to be executed for reasons other than his non-involvement in 9-11
- Iraq will not go into full-fledged civil war next year unless the US leaves that country
- Reversal of Roe v. Wade would lead most state legislatures to enact laws to protect abortion rights. Public backlash would benefit the Democrats
- America as we knew it is long dead

Lets hope that not all of those things come to fruition.

Ultimately, I think maybe you have missed the mark and none of those things will happen, but something WAY worse and unpredictable will (read: tsunami, pakistan, katrina).

So, that being said, here is my prediction:

Mt Rainier will erupt, setting off all of the major PNW fault lines, dumping Seattle into the Puget Sound and covering Tacoma in hundreds of feet of mud.

Secondary prediction:
I will buy a firearm while I still can.

- America will begin a phased pullout, but realize there is no way to stop Kurdish militias from breaking away and fighting for an independant Kurdistan, in which case political happenings will depend on how Kurds feel about us accessing their large oil feilds. Southern Iraq will go completly Shia, and will effectively merge with Iran through the influence of powerful clerics. The crumbling remnants of us military presence will continue in bagdad, where Sunni insurgents will continue to fight.
-Roe vs Wade will stay entact because Bush really doesn't care about it.
-Corruption within the government will continue, but the symptoms of broad economic failure stemming from the corruptions and abuses of power will begin to become subtly evident to the business elite, who will also be watching china with a wary eye, and they will begin to worry, but not make any real change.

- Iran may be attacked (nuclear facilities), but not invaded.
- Saddam will be killed by his own people. His will be the only execution.
- No civil war in Iraq as long as foreign troops are there in substantial quantities
- Access to elective abortion will be maintained. If Roe is reversed, basic Federal legislation will be pushed through to supersede a patchwork of state laws.
