Fairfax workers on strike, negotiations end

By RANDOLPH HEASTER

Workers at the General Motors Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kan., went on strike right at 9 a.m. today.

A picket went up on Fairfax Trafficway in front of the plant and cars and trucks of workers started streaming out of the plant as the strike deadline hit.

The United Auto Workers and GM have been negotiating on the details of a local contract for weeks. The UAW approved a strike authorization more than a week ago but continued work while negotiations proceeded.

The union gave GM its 12-hour strike notice last night.
