Today in labor history May 11(signaling a wave of new anti-worker activity by employers and governme

May 11

May 11, 1894 - The Pullman strike began. Some 260,000 workers joined the walkout called by the American Railway Union to support employees at the Illinois factory where Pullman sleeper cars were made. The strike was eventually crushed with the help of federal troops, signaling a wave of new anti-worker activity by employers and government.

May 11, 1907 - The Minneapolis Millers Union meets and votes to consolidate with the Nailers and Packers Union.

1. when I think of how much courage it took, and how many people risked their lives

for the unions, and how many people lost them, it makes me even more grateful for all they have done. we are currently fighting "right to be fired" legislation here, and the ignorance encountered is appalling.
