This is the post I made when they were negotiating.
"We've been working 4 days a week since November. Things are slow. They said that we lost 45% of our business.
This is what the powers that be are asking of us.
5% cut in pay 4 10hr. days Working Sat. and Sun.'s and take 2 days off during the week. No day shift, only 2nds, and 3rds. No money going to the pension plan for 16 months. Go to a medical co-pay instead of deductibles. (Actually this would save me money as we have a huge deductible.)
In exchange, they are saying that they will close the plant in Mexico and move the business up here.
Our new contract increases the money going into the pension by a little. 5 cents. We will for ego our 20 cent raise for this year, but will get a 20 cent raise for the other 4 years of the contract.
The top 4 in management took a 40% cut in pay. ( This is not a huge manufacturer. We may have 1000 people all together) The rest of management took a 3.5% pay cut.)
I'm thrilled. I was expecting them to ask for the world, like they started out to do.
In exchange, our plant is getting 80 new product lines. We will begin working 5 days a week in a couple of weeks. The sad thing is most of the work seems to be coming from the only other unionized plant we have. In Michigan. I feel bad for them.
