Jokester Mitt (Romney) better hope Fred (Thompson) doesn’t get last laugh

http://news.bostonherald.com/news/opinion/columnists/view.bg?articleid=1029415

You’re Willard Mitt Romney, and tonight is your last Republican debate before the official entrance into the race of Fred Thompson, lobbyist.

And that’s how you and your minions always describe him - lobbyist. Not senator, and certainly not actor - Ronald Reagan was an actor, for goodness’ sake.

No, Fred was a lobbyist. For the Teamsters, and cable TV companies, and Westinghouse. And 2008 isn’t shaping up as a big year for Washington insiders, not when Hillary Clinton is laughably trying to position herself as an “outsider.”

So tonight at 9,Fred Thompson, lobbyist, will be MIA on the UNH stage in Durham, and in a couple of million homes tuned in to the Fox News Channel. Instead Fred Thompson, lobbyist, will be yukking it up with Jay Leno.

You’re Mitt Romney, and after tonight, you have to spend the rest of the month running around the country raising money before the end of the quarter, Sept. 30, because otherwise, God forbid, you have to keep throwing your own money into the fight.

Because otherwise, your third-quarter numbers will come up as pallid as John McCain’s, which are going to look worse than the weekend box office for “September Dawn.”

You’re Mitt Romney, and the hard-core conservatives still love to hate you on their Internet sites - you and Rudy and John McCain. “Rudy McRomney,” that’s what ex-Gov. Jim Gilmore called you three, but of course, he’s now running for John Warner’s Senate seat in Virginia.

FULL story at link.
