MONTREAL — The management at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery says it is ending its four-month lockout, which has left at least 500 unburied bodies in cold storage.

The cemetery made the decision after examining a back-to-work proposal by the union, according to a statement issued Wednesday morning.

The union said Tuesday that it’s 130 workers would return to work starting next Monday, and work four days out of five, striking each Friday, until a settlement is reached.

The workers were locked out May 16 after weeks of pressure tactics.

The cemetery owners issued a statement Wednesday morning, confirming that it had decided to accept the union’s offer.

“This is the best news I have had in four months,” said Debora De Thomasis, 31, president of Defence of the Rights of the Deceased and Their Families. “I hope this is real and nobody is pulling my leg.”
