Tommy Hilfiger Workers’ Fight to Unionize Heats Up

http://www.unitehere.org/frontpagedetail.php?ID=3052

January 8, 2008

Workers at apparel giant Tommy Hilfiger's distribution center in Montréal, Canada are actively forming a union with UNITE HERE to improve their working conditions. The workers want a union so that they can resolve issues such as a lack of significant raises and a general disrespect from management.

Tommy Hilfiger management retaliated against workers’ efforts to improve conditions by holding anti-union meetings, deliberately following suspected union leaders, and actively discouraging workers from joining the union.

“We work very hard for Tommy Hilfiger. We’re tired of the empty promises and want a union to guarantee improvement in our work conditions,” said a Tommy Hilfiger worker who spoke anonymously for fear of retaliation.

UNITE HERE is reaching out to customers at Tommy Hilfiger stores and at Tommy Hilfiger’s biggest clients, The Bay in Canada and Macy’s in the U.S., to let Tommy Hilfiger customers know about the company’s anti-union actions.
