This one is far more catchy than the first one I posted and would play well especially in the Midwest (and West...and even parts of the South).

The song is "Forty Hour Week" by Alabama.

2. Mocking the song's effectiveness in rural sections of the country, or the cheesey video?
Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 03:11 AM by Infinite Hope
I've seen it used. In rural areas or working class urban areas, people love it. Especially strong union areas.

7. As one who works a 40 hour week
Edited on Tue Dec-26-06 11:14 AM by ayeshahaqqiqa
without health care, with a sick husband at home who can't work, I was touched by this tribute, probably the only one I'll ever get. But then I'm a Midwesterner living in the upper South now, obviously not sophisticated enough for you. No wonder we Dems are charged with being elitist.

5. Gee, and they call us elitist...not us!
I think the lyrics would play especially well in the midwest. In the town where I live, we have lost more manufacturing jobs in the past 5 or so years than I can remember. I grew up around friends who's parents were welders and mechanics...and my grandpa drove semis until the day he broke his back, and the music I remeber being played at cook-outs etc. was Alabama, Skynard, Springsteen etc. (or in the case of grandpa, the beer barrel polka). At my house, my parents played John Prine, The Doors, Arlo and Dylan, but I didn't make fun of the people who chose to listen to music like this song. Sure the video is cheesy, but the message is what people want to hear!

6. Nice Video

Most in Re-thugs Congress are now bitching because Pelosi is requiring everyone to work M-F and because the Dems want to raise the minimum wage.

Recommended. And most of those folks are working more than 40 hours a week. Avg is 43 a week now, I believe, but I don't have a link handy.

8. I understand the concern for working people(since I'm one of them)...
and the loss of good jobs with actual benefits. I belong to a union and I support Edwards and the case for increasing minimum wages. However, these are not normal times and I worry that the Dems are willing to get distracted from what I, and many other progressives, see as the overwhelming issue in our time: ending the illegal and unjust occupation of Iraq. Case in point; read this article about the defense/weapons industry and how they are not worried at all about the Dems being in power now. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/26/business/26place.html?ref=business . I thought as much when I noticed how the big corps started donating major bucks to the Dems right before the mid-terms.

9. Defense/weapons industry, et al
doesn't give a d*mn who's in power (a certain 'party' or independents) .... they will RUTHLESSLY work to purchase/acquire (via blackmail?) the vote count that they want.

The people that we elect need to be people with "strength of character", not "pretty boys". The pressures that our elected officials must endure is ENORMOUS (I would guess from all the evidence). And those that "stand up" need to be recognized, appreciated, and supported. Be very careful about whom you choose to stand behind. Don't simple-mindedly believe the spin (I'm sure you know from experience, that there's always "more to the story").

Peace,
M_Y_H

The song played at the 1996 Democratic Convention. I believe the music group are Democratic as well.
