First, Bush presents a gesture as a noble sacrifice, when in fact its a very trivial matter. It's poor taste to present abstaining from playing golf as a noble sacrifice. And then the noble gesture turns out to be a fabrication that is not actually observed.
It's hard to get upset about this. Even if this war were necessary to American survival rather than a colonial enterprise justified by a pack of lies, the gesture is too poor a way of honoring the real sacrifice of American soldiers to make a fuss about its breech. That it turns out to be one small and insignificant lie on top of greater lies that have cost the lives of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, human beings causes a sense of disgust to rise from inside, but one that can no longer be sustained.
How can any one possibly have more contempt for Mr. Bush than we have already?
Mr. Bush will go down as a grotesque figure in history, something on a larger scale but still like John Wayne Gacy, the Chicago serial killer who entertained as a clown at children's parties. Mr. Gacy's clown was a conscious alter-ego, while Mr. Bush is a genuine fool whose clownish gestures come naturally. Both are genuine monsters and mass murderers.
