Michigan Congressman David Bonior testifies on behalf of the Obama campaign before the DNC Rules Panel and states:

"We are aware that the committee members to allow Michigan a full delegation with only a reduction in the voting strength."

It's "clear that the resulting delegates should be split evenly between the two remaining candidates."

Congressman Bonior points out that this was "a flawed election."

1. Our family cast ballots in good faith.
And we expect them to be counted.

2. And many did not vote because they were told...
Edited on Sat May-31-08 02:02 PM by ultraist
The votes in MI wouldn't count for anything. Hillary herself said that.

Another 40% who did vote, voted "uncommitted."

Four candidates were not even on the ballot: Edwards, Obama, Biden and Richardson. All of whom left their names off the ballot out of respect for the DNC rules.

It was a "flawed election."

A fair contest would been had all of the candidates were on the ballot and voters were told their votes WOULD count.

7. In military dictatorships, they hold elections with only one candidate on the ballot. Paraguay comes
to mind.

20. Multiply by a factor or two
and you have most of the Democratic primary races held since Super Tuesday.

3. How would you have voted if the candidate of your choice
wasn't on the ballot?

13. We only vote for the lesser of two evils come November.
And that is our upper limit. Then its too important to do otherwise. We have skipped primaries before, when the candidates were not to our liking. We need tell ourselves. The primary is the real election. That is where policy changes has the greater chance to change into a new direction. If the primay is meaningless , then what is so important about November.

10. It's Amazing How Some Ignore That Point
and cry "foul" just to keep a candidate who CAN'T win in a primary that should be over for the good of the Party. Some people just don't give a damn and will do anything no matter how low to get what they want.

15. Curious -- were you aware at the time that none of MI's votes were to be counted?
Not arguing fair or unfair, but this is an actual opportunity to ask a Michigan resident of how aware they actually were that the determination had already been made that MI's delegates would not be seated as a result of their early primary.

17. They Knew the Rules. They Cheated.... Plain and Simple
they don't have a leg to stand on. Their argument is irrelevant and pure BS. Wanna be treated fairly, play by the rules or else you forfeit whatever argument you think you had.

What's worse.....? All this still doesn't change the outcome. Hillary still loses. That's the part in this that is unforgivable for me right now. She did this all for just the perception of there being a chance for changing the outcome...

I don't like politicians who stoop low like this. If they are willing to break the rules to win an election, they cannot be trusted to wield power given to them by "We the People".

11. Hillary should forfeit any delegates for not removing her name from the Ballot.
Fla. and Mich. weren't the only ones breaking rules in this.

12. Good point but...
Technically, Hillary didn't break the rules by leaving her name on the ballot. She was disrespectful of the rules by doing so, but there wasn't a rule about the names on the ballot, specifically.

Although, I do think one could reasonably argue, that by leaving their name on the ballot, they were in fact, campaigning in the state, which was against the rules.

16. Well according to Obama and Edwards the DNC said they had to remove their names from the ballot.
They both did this. Hillary did not.

18. Oh, really?
My mistake then. I was not aware of that. I thought they did so voluntarily, out of respect for the general rules on MI.

Thanks for clarifying!
