The Space Shuttle Discovery blasted off at 5:02 EDT, from Cape Canaveral, Florida headed to the International Space Station.

Per CNN:

"Loaded aboard Discovery was Japan's precious lab, a $1 billion addition for the space station that will be the biggest room by far. It's named Kibo, Japanese for hope.

Also tucked away in the space shuttle: a new pump for the space station's finicky toilet. For more than a week, the three occupants have had to manually flush the toilet with extra water several times a day, a time-consuming job."

1. I love the depiction of speed as "Velocity" in the video
One would think NASA could get that right. I guess "velocity" is a cooler word.

http://astro.pas.rochester.edu/ast104/lec/lec7/tsld005.htm

Velocity vs. Speed

* On Interstate 90 heading for NYC
....o speed is constant 60 mph
....o velocity is constant 60 mph in constant direction East
........+ since velocity is totally constant, the acceleration is zero
........+ therefore by N2 -- the net force on the car is zero
....o On race car at Indianapolis
........+ speed is constant 200 mph
........+ velocity is this speed, but in an ever-changing direction
............# the velocity is not constant, since it’s direction changes
............# a force must act on the car (the force of friction between the tires and the track does it)
................+ Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity (direction and speed) per unit time.

4. The shuttle is decades old.
But it is the best we got after Apollo was canned.

Hopefully the DIRECT program if accepted under Obama http://www.directlauncher.com/
