My sons laughed at him endlessly. Number four son took his "Don't touch me here" song to incredible lengths of bad taste. He was in fourth grade at the time, and actually sang it to the Good Touch Bear. The bear was in a full costume, but my kid said that the bear nearly lost his breath laughing so hard at the song. Even the mascots know they are full of it, but the idiot in the OP seems to be buying the whole package.

i had to put up with this crap in high school and junior high. This has been going on a lot longer than you think.....

standard practice in Texas. Paris, Texas to be exact. We were always having these so called programs that were nothing but thinly veiled attempts of proselytizing.

I will tell you of one:

this had to be 1990/91. we had to sit through a dumb play at the theater arts building at North Lamar High School, about this kid who wanted to get into his girlfriend's pants. He took his girlfriend to a party, got her to drink a single beer and take a couple of hits off of a joint. The next day she became a full blown heroin addict and gave birth to a drug addicted kid 8 months later. I am not making this up.

The best part of the whole play?

Lead Actor: "Why do we do this??? Why are we so consumed with sex????"

Kid in the audience, out loud: "Dude, everybody's horny!"

The entire audience bursts into laughter and the play came to an abrupt end.

How about 4 billion years of evolution, selecting for good procreators?

For the Creation Science-minded, how about because God commanded us to be fruitful and multiply?

I knew at the age of 17, that all of the facts and figure they were spewing were wildly inaccurate. Of course the uninformed bought it, hook, line, and sinker. The sad thing was that we had a HIGH teen pregnancy rate in Lamar County at that time. I would assume it's still that bad.

Nobody had access to condoms. Nobody had access to good information. It was assumed that you wouldn't have sex until you were married, so hey what do you need condoms for??? If a teen girl became pregnant, then she was simply labeled as a dirty whore with no morals and she deserved what she got.

(the following is not meant to insult any of our GLBT friends here on DU or elsewhere, however, this is an attempt to portray how rampant ignorance was in a small conservative Texas town.)

Nobody had the right facts on AIDS, or HIV. It was a widely accepted fact (at this point in time) that you could get HIV by sitting on a dirty toilet seat and mosquito bites. It was also widely accepted that AIDS was god's punishment "for all them homer-sex-yuls", thus fueling the fire for more violence against the GLBT people in that shit-hole place.

I got into an interesting argument with a preacher around this same time in that town when he parroted the southern baptist line about AIDS being god's punishment. I had read up on it extensivley at the time so i pointed out the scientific fact that cases of HIV infections among lesbians were quite rare. That didn't set too well with him and he then tried to "save" me, because i didn't think like he did.

When my son was small and the "Good Touch/Bad Touch" program was brought to his school, I opted him out of it. I didn't care what they thought at the school and I'm sure that they did, but this was my responsibility as a parent, not theirs. Maybe that is part of the reason why I have home schooled our son for many years. I have never thought it was the governments responsibility to teach sexuality education to children because it is not an amoral issue. Parents need to impart their own value system to their children. My feeling is that I do want our son to be abstinent until marriage or at least until he is in a committed relationship that seems to be heading that direction. But I have also talked to him about using protection. We live in a small town and the area has many, many teen pregnancies. My son is one of the few in his age group that has not fathered a child. I am proud of him for choosing not to get into a sexual relationship at this point in his life (he is 19). He does truly reflect our values and belief systems and that shows I have done my job as a parent. The government does not make a very good parent on the other hand and they need to stay out of trying to do so.

I would hope that someone who goes into children's entertainment does so because they like kids. So why take a gig pushing a policy which is known to result in more teenage pregnancies and STDs?

Christian comedian Keith Deltano used fear, shame and misinformation to spread his message about abstinence to students at three high schools in Loudoun County this school year, according to a critique by an organization that advocates comprehensive sex education. The group reviewed Deltano's February performance at Dominion High School in Sterling. Its findings were shared Friday night at an event at George Washington University in Ashburn organized by Mainstream Loudoun and some churches.

The Ashburn event featured the movie "The Education of Shelby Knox," about a Christian teenager in Texas who becomes an advocate for comprehensive sex education, and a discussion afterward with the star of the film. Sponsors of the event said they wanted to start a public conversation about sex education in Loudoun.

"We were concerned that our kids were not being given the right information to make good decisions," said Kathy Hawes, president of Mainstream Loudoun, which advocates for the separation of church and state. The organizers of Friday's event said they have many questions about how abstinence lessons such as Deltano's fit into the Loudoun school system's Family Life Education, which has to comply with state standards.

"If it's part of the curriculum, they would have to follow certain guidelines. Teachers have to have specific credentials," Hawes said. "That's something that confuses us."

The critique of Deltano's performance at Dominion High was conducted by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States. It included criticism of his decision to demonstrate the ineffectiveness of condoms against HIV by dangling a cinderblock over a male student's genital area. The group said the drill gave a message of fear and shame and misrepresented statistics about condom failure.
